Color of the Year – Tangerine Tango

Color of the Year Tangerine Tango

Pantone has announced “Tangerine Tango” as the official color of the year 2012. Anyone who has been following the SS12 trends on the ramps has probably already noted this bright trend. This is what Pantone says about the latest ‘it’ color:

“The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.  “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Tangerine is an orange-colored citrus fruit closely related to the Mandarin Orange.  The taste is often less sour than that of an orange. However, these facts don’t matter as it is definitely the juiciest color to be seen in the coming months!

One fact cannot be denied – “tangerine” is definitely a “young” color and adds a lift and certain perkiness when introduced into an outfit. So, choose this on days that you are raring to go :-).

Now, looking at the swatch above, you can guess that this is not a color for the weak-hearted. In case, you are wondering if it’ll suit you, know this – Tangerine is supposed to be best for tanned or bronzed skin; hence, it should work with most Indian skin tones, Yay!!!

Color Combos:

In order to tone down the natural vibrancy of the color, you can pair it with neutrals.

For a day/casual look – white, off white, beige.

For an evening/formal look – black, navy blue.

For a nice contrast to break the monotone, you can go with turquoise or hot pink.

Gold beautifully complements tangerine and is great for jewelry options.

How To Wear Tangerine?

You can go for a single toned dress, or a dress with prints, as long as you change the color of the accessories.

Another option is to keep one item of clothing neutral, one tangerine and go for a pop with turquoise or hot pink accessories. One really chic way to wear this would be a nice tangerine blouse with blue jeans and hot pink shoes or bag.

Tangerine also works in Indian wear. Check out Anushka’s pretty ombre kurta here:

Tango Accents:

If you’re still wary of actually “wearing” tangerine, you can go ahead and use it in accessories. Bags are a safe bet and comparatively easy to carry off, in terms of color. Check out these Marc Jacobs beauties:

Tangerine on My Face:

Tangerine makeup can be a little trickier, though nail paints are relatively safe. You can try to work a tangerine mouth, keeping the rest of your face drama-free. Look at Kim Kardashian here rocking tangerine lips with gold tones every where else:

The lioness-hearted among you can go ahead and try tangerine eyeshadow, tangerine blush and so on!!

Tangerine in My Home:

This is an area where you have to tread very carefully; you don’t want to end up with a headache! Try a single focus piece like a chair, or use it in accents around the room, like a headboard or cushions.
