Colorbar Sterling Silver I-Glide Eye Pencil Review

Hello Lovely Ladies,

After reviewing the shade “Blue Topaz” for you, I have for you today the shade “Sterling Silver.” It has been a part of this line for some time. However, for some reason, it remained “un”-reviewed. So, I thought I would fill up the gap.

Product Details:
Keep it thick or thin depending on the look you want to achieve.  Defines like a pencil and glides like a liquid eyeliner. The I-Glide Eye Pencil, with its smooth formulation, gives your eyes rich colour in a single stroke and blends in easily after application. Lasts longer than 8 hours, does not feather or bleed. Waterproof, super long wear, no transfer and smudge-proof.

Price:
Rs. 499

Packaging:
The pencil comes packaged in a silver cardboard box. The pencil and the cardboard box, both have been color coordinated with their ends reflecting the shade. So, whether you store these pencils in the box or in a stand, it’s easy to pick up the colour you want. The pencil is a normal sharpenable pencil with a silver cap which fits nicely.  This does not come with a sharpener or a smudger.

My Experience with Colorbar Sterling Silver I-Glide Eye Pencil:

Color:  The shade “Sterling Silver” is exactly what the name suggests – it’s a bright shimmery metallic silver. Now, you may ask, why I would pick this shade up? We generally use our blacks and browns or the coloured pencil shades on the eyes, not really a silver. Well, ever since I realized that a light shade of silver or flesh tone when applied to the lower lash line can really make the eyes look awake and fresh, I have been experimenting with these. Also, at times, these pencils can work as a great multi-tasking tool and can also be used for quick highlighting for certain areas – brow bone, inner corner of the eye. You would remember Rati’s review of Benefit High Brow Glow Pencil.

So anyway, I picked up this shade. Truth be told, if I had got the opportunity to try it in the store – like you are ale to with high-end products, I would not have bought it! Why? Let’s see, the shade itself is stark, really bright and really metallic.  It’s not very easy to incorporate into the look. When used on the waterline, it appears very bold (refer to the pics). It does brighten the area, but the look it imparts is more apt for a wedding or a event, rather than the normal look of brightness, you might be waiting to achieve.

Texture: Just like “Topaz Blue,” the texture is smooth and creamy. It swatches beautifully on the hand and the same smoothness is apparent when applying on the eyes.  Just as mentioned in the previous review, the tip of this one too, breaks easily because it is just so soft. Also, the tip becomes blunt very quickly.

Apart from the above-mentioned cons, there is another thing that’s noticeable about the texture of “Sterling Silver.” Considering that the texture is so soft, one would expect it to blend smoothly when using as a highlighter on the brow bone or in the inner corner of the eyes. However, that is not the case, maybe it’s the high pigmentation or the metallic nature of the shade, it does not blend. The silver particles remain super evident and starkly clear.

Pigmentation: As mentioned earlier, the pigmentation is great, it glides smoothly and deposits color easily.

Staying Power:  The pencil stays put for good 4 hours on the waterline. The hand swatch lasted much longer.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Colorbar Sterling Silver I-Glide Eye Pencil:

  • A distinct metallic silver.
  • Impressive staying power on skin – not necessarily the waterline.
  • Waterproof.
  • Glides on smoothly.
  • Has intense colour payoff.
  • Comes off easily at the end of the day with my cleansing oil.

Cons of Colorbar Sterling Silver I-Glide Eye Pencil:

  • The creaminess of the product makes the tip prone to breakage.
  • Also it’s not to make a thin line application with this.
  • You need to constantly sharpen it, which means, you will run through the product quicker.
  • Did feel a little uncomfortable on the waterline. Did not make my eyes water but did have uncomfortable feel.

IMBB Rating:
2.5/5

I am not considering the lack of multipurposeness as a con since I was hoping it would work that way, however, the brand is selling it as an eye pencil, so it needs to be judged only as that.

Would I Recommend Colorbar Sterling Silver I-Glide Eye Pencil?
Not really. I think it’s a difficult shade to incorporate. However, if you plan to attend a lot of weddings or are a makeup artist planning for the wedding season – you might like the product and be able to play with it – both for eyes and for body art.  I will keep experimenting with this to figure how else I can utilize this, but I do not see myself re-purchasing this.

    1. I tried it on the upper lash line as well – not too neat. Coz you can’t get a thin line in. And if you put the black liner over it, it doesn’t give a smooth surface. Tried as a shadow base as well – it was just one hot mess!
