ColourPop Take It Slow Metallic Pressed Powder Review

Today, I have yet another Colourpop eyeshadow review for you. Unlike the matte shades that I have reviewed earlier – Running Late, I Owe You, Criss Cross – this one is a metallic shade. Let us see how this one performs…

Product Description:
Take it Slow – There’s no need to rush in this metallic warm champagne. Highly pigmented shadow that applies evenly and feels ultra-velvety and silky. This long wearing formula contains a unique combination of softer powders which adheres easily to the eyes, gives a soft focus effect, and blends smoothly and evenly. Tips:  Apply with your favorite shadow brushes. Flat and firmer brushes will give the most color payoff. Fluffier brushes are great for blending. Use a small angled brush to line the eyes.
Price:
USD 5. It does “feel” easy on the pocket because of the $5 tag. However, there are two things to consider – one, for customers in India, it isn’t likely to cost you $5. And for everyone else – even though Colourpop seems to have built a reputation around affordable makeup, $5 isn’t all that cheap. In US MakeUp Geek and MAC eyeshadow pans cost just a dollar more and have way more product than the Colourpop ones do.

My Experience with ColourPop Take It Slow Metallic Pressed Powder:

Shade:  This shade is from the metallic range – a light, off-white shade with a metallic sheen. This is the customary highlighter shade. Something which can be used all over the eye or for the halo effect or inner corner of the eye or for highlighting the brow bone. In the EOTD, I have used it on the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eye. I have also used it as a face highlighter – on the high points of my cheek, the bridge of the nose and the cupid’s bow. This would give you an idea of how it works when applied in a built up manner, – or when it is blended out and when it is applied sheerly.

Texture:  The texture is quite smooth but it isn’t very creamy – nor is it too stiff. Normally, most brands get the metallic/shimmery shades right and it is the matte shades which can be a pain to develop into soft, creamy products. Generally, when you swatch shimmery/metallic shadows, you would see how the swatch goes a long length because the product is so creamy. However, if you see the swatch of this product, you will see how the swatch does not travel too much on the arm. So, it isn’t too creamy. This, however, isn’t a negative. Let me explain:

• When a product is too creamy, it can tend to crumble, which can cause creasing on the eyelid.
• A too creamy metallic shade is likely to accentuate texture on the lid – aka *cough* Natasha Denona Shimmer eyeshadow *cough*!!
  Chances are that an overtly creamy eye shadow may not double up as an highlighter coz the texture gets dense and it becomes difficult to sheer it out for a soft highlighter like application.

So, while some may feel that the shade isn’t as smooth as some other shimmer eyeshadows out there – it actually is a boon for this shade!

Pigmentation: The shade has good pigmentation. It shows up easily onto the skin, at least on my NC30 skin tone. I didn’t need to work on building it up.

Staying Power:  I apply my eyeshadows over a primer because my lids are way too oily. The shade gave about 7-7.5 hours of wear time before showing signs of fading.

Pros of ColourPop Take It Slow Metallic Pressed Powder:

• A lovely shimmer shade which can easily double up as a face highlighter too.
• Good pigmentation.
• Blends out easily.
• It does not emphasise texture of my skin.
• Had no fallout.
• Did not kick up any powder when you put in your brush.
• Good wear time – about 7-7.5 hours.

Cons of ColourPop Take It Slow Metallic Pressed Powder:

• Nothing at all.

Overall, it is a nice shade and easy to work with. Is it a unique? Is it a must have? Maybe not. If you are an eyeshadow freak and have a half decent collection – you would probably already have similar shades in your stash. Every other palette too has a identified highlighting shade.
Would I Recommend ColourPop Take It Slow Metallic Pressed Powder?
Someone who is starting their eyeshadow collection and need a shimmer shade for highlighting the inner corner/brow bone, etc. Something which is easy to work with and is not too shimmery or too loud. Someone who is starting their makeup collection or someone who is hearing all the hype around the face highlighting trend and would like to dip their toes with a more affordable option – yes, I recommend.
