How To Combat Frizzy Hair

How To Combat Frizzy Hair

Perhaps the most dreaded f-word in our beauty dictionary is “frizz.” Frizzy hair is annoying, difficult to tame, and makes your otherwise nice hair look so messy. Fortunately, I found a couple of ways by which you can combat frizz, tame those tresses, and look well-turned out.

How To Combat Frizzy Hair

1. Get the technique right:

The+Body+Shop+Rainforest+Moisture+Shampoo

Use a low-detergent shampoo (detergents like sodium laureth sulphate can harm hair in the long run) on your hair. It won’t lather as much as other shampoos, but it will definitely clean you up. Remember, lather is not an indicator of how much the shampoo will clean your scalp. Once you are done, rinse it and apply conditioner. Leave it on for at least five minutes and rinse it off with cold water. Finally, when you towel-dry your hair, press your hair and don’t rub it – rubbing makes frizz more prominent.

2. Use styling products:

garnier-silky-straight-serum

When your hair is still wet, take a small amount of serum, cream or styling balm for hair, rub it between your palms and apply it along the strands of your hair. The more dry or rough your hair is, the thicker and richer the styling product should be to provide adequate moisturization. You could even try pinning up the top layers of your hair and working your way up slowly to make sure every strand gets reached.

3. Never brush wet hair:

hair-brush

Brushing or combing wet hair not only causes breakage, it also aggravates frizz. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle and then use a few drops of serum to smoothen it out.

4. Don’t use too much product:

Too much of serum, or potion, or spray or leave-ins could weigh down your hair, making it limp and greasy, and that doesn’t bode well for when you use heat-styling products either. So, make sure you use only a small coin-sized amount and scrunch it into the ends of your hair.

5. Tie your hair after straightening, let it down later:

Swept Away

This is a personal technique I have tried since my hair is rather voluminous and even after straightening it tends to puff up. I sometimes straighten and sleep in with my hair tied in a semi-loose ponytail. In the morning, it sets and all I have to do is remove the scrunchie!

  1. Thank you for the lovely tips Nandini…..I am going use the last tip today itself….to straighten hair and then scrunch it 🙂

  2. I have okayish hair otherwise but only the back of my head, exactly where our head touches the pillow while sleeping on back has a frizzy portion! Loved the tips, will surely follow them 🙂

  3. Very useful article Nandini..can you please give me some tips on how to manage frizz with oily scalp..I have an oily scalp and only the topmost portion of my hair is frizzy..serums make my hair more oily..

    1. I also have a slightly oily scalp…the key is to use just a small 50 p coin sized amount of leave-in conditioner or anti frizz cream only towards the ends of your hair strands and nowhere near your scalp.

  4. I use argan oil from pro naturals and it has helped me a lot, reduces the frizz and keeps my hair soft, shiny and healthy. 😀

  5. The last tip was really good one. U can even tie your hair when half wet n blow dry just before u leave and your ready to go with nice bounce hair.
