Common Myths about Dermal Fillers

I recently did a post on common myths about botox, now it is time to clarify some myths on dermal fillers, yes, lip plumping is an example, first let us see the difference between botox and dermal fillers.

Botox is done using injectable of botolinum toxin into the right muscles to freeze and relax those facial wrinkle-producing muscles, like the area around eyes and between the forehead. Dermal filler fills out facial lines and wrinkles that are static, which are there even at rest, like lines on the side of the mouth to the nose.Fillers enhance volume to make them look plumper, it does not target muscles. Botox is injected into muscles, whereas filler into the skin of the face.

Again, like with botox, there is a lot of bad press which makes us imagine horrific stories surrounding it, we must now clear some popular myths related to fillers.

1.Myth: Dermal Fillers are Extremely Painful.

Dermal Fillers can be painful, but these days fillers are combined with lidocane to numb the area to reduce pain. Topical numbing agents can also reduce the pain.

2. Myth: The areas that require filling on the face are common for everyone.

Recent researches show that everyone ages differently. The face lifts need to be customized, aging is also influenced but factors like sun exposure, smoking and diet.

3. Myth: Fillers are coffee-time procedures:

These need more time in most cases for long lasting results, inexperienced and hurried hands could lead to complications.

4. Myth: Fillers are as good as surgical face-lifts.

There is no doubt that botox and fillers can slow the aging of the skin and make you younger-looking in very less downtime-but nothing beats the results of actual surgical face lifts.

5. Myth: Permanent fillers are better

Temporary fillers that last longer – up to 1-2 years, These are better than permanent ones, since permanent fillers have permanent problems and cannot be removed easily.

6. Myth: Hyaluronic Acid based Dermal Fillers are irreversible.

If you are not happy with results, doctors can reverse the effects. This can be expensive and cumbersome though.

7. Myth: Injections need downtime after the procedure.

Excessive bruising and swelling might need downtime.

8.Myth: Sun does not impact Fillers.

Dermal fillers are directly impacted by sun exposure. SPF 35-40 is a must and prolonged sun has to be avoided to get lasting results.

9. Myth: Non-surgical rhinoplasty yields the same results as surgery.

No.Best fillers use hyaluronic acid which plumps up bumps and depressions. But the effects are not as specific as surgery and the results only last a year or so.

Fillers make use of collagen and hyaluronic acid to name some, before you take one, you must know what is meant for which area and target. Always consult a professional which will save the cost of reversal procedures and also avoid side effects.
