Cosrx Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner Review

I like products by the brand “Cosrx.” They do contain some esoteric chemicals and very uncommon ingredients – the kind you do not read in most skin care products but perhaps is common in Korean brands. I douse my face with a face mist right after cleansing or a shower, so I go through face miss really fast and at a given time, I alternate between 2-3 toners. I am not sure if this product can double up as a makeup setting spray but I don’t use it for that purpose and enjoy it because of its ingredient list.

My Experience with Cosrx Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner:

Skin care industry is a little overwhelming these days because of so many complex-sounding chemicals in their ingredient lists. Skin care ingredients have become more esoteric and require mild reading to know more about their benefits and side effects and most importantly, know how about ingredients that should not be used together.

This toner contains 10% Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, which is known to even out skin tone and refine skin texture. The term “fermentation” in skincare is fairly new to me and sounds rather absurd in this genre. However, since this is a new fad in Korean skin care, I decided to give it a shot. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (GFF) is used as a moisturizing agent in cosmetic products, prevents skin damage from environmental stress or dryness and has anti-oxidant properties.

The product comes in a 150ml size bottle with a mister on top. The packaging is translucent and sturdy. The mister is very hard to work with I have to press it down hard to dispense some product. Most Korean face mists can be applied before or after makeup, but this face mist is more of skin care product rather than makeup setting kind. I use all my face mists for the “7 skin method”, wherein I take a pump of product on my palm and dab it on to my face and I repeat this multiple times. This method is popular among Korean beauty enthusiasts since it helps skin absorb the toner better and add more moisture.

This toner has no fragrance and is alcohol free. Usually Korean face mists have a strong alcoholic smell which prevents me from reaching for them often, but this one triumphed in that aspect. It has no artificial color, sits comfortably on face, adds moisture and hydration and adds a faint glow.

Pros of Cosrx Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner:

It is an affordable face mist with a very tempting ingredient list.
Comes in a good size bottle with a mister on top. The packaging is sturdy and translucent.
Has no fragrance.
Alcohol free.
Has no artificial color.
Ingredient list is clearly disclosed in English (not usually done by other Korean brands).
Adds hydration and glow to skin.

Cons of Cosrx Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner:

Availability can be an issue for some but some Korean websites do ship to India as well.
The mister is very hard to work with and makes dispensing the product very difficult.
It is called “alcohol free” but it contains butylene glycol and ethyl hexanediol which both are alcohols – although relatively harmless and meant to be added to skin care products still they are alcohol so why call it “alcohol free”. It is a bit confusing for me.

It is an affordable face mist which acts as a perfect first step in my skin care routine. I invest in Korean skin care a lot and I am glad that most of them are not disappointing.
