Hello Everyone,

What it does:

From a sheer tint to total coverage, Custom Cover Drops lets you achieve your desired coverage. Blend it with anything liquid to create your desired coverage, including moisturizers, serums, oils, primers, foundations, and tinted moisturizers that are water-, oil-, or silicone-based. These revolutionary drops feature Flash Fusion Technology™, so as soon as you drop, it leaves behind pigment that weightlessly transforms your favorite beauty product into the sheerest tint or a total coverage foundation. Simply adjust your coverage by the number of drops you add. The pigments are coated with lecithin, which is biochemically similar to the skin, to ensure seamless blending, precise control, and the smoothest application.

My Experience with Cover FX Custom Cover Drops:

Packaging:
This product comes in a small bottle with a dropper. The quantity is not a lot, its only .50 oz which is only half the size of regular foundation tubes yet it still is quite expensive. I do not like the way this product is packaged. There is a gap between the cap and the tube hence when you shake the bottle before use the liquid tends to accumulate near the mouth of the bottle leading to a lot of wasted product.

Texture/Consistency:
This is quite an innovative product and very unique to the market. The way it is designed is that the liquid is a mix of pure pigments hence you can use it any base you like- serum, oil, foundation or tinted moisturizer be it oil, water or silicone based. Another product which I think is bit similar in concept to this is the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual skin enhancer (review here) which unlike this is in a cream format which can also be customiz-able and which I was not a huge fan of.
I have used this product with variety of different base(my Hourglass primer serum, Laura Mercier Radiance primer and Makeup forever Step 1 Primer) and I have noticed that when this cover drops is mixed they blend incredibly well with the base. The blend becomes seamless and the 2 products do not separate. I have noticed when mixed with any base it turns that base thicker. The best way to blend the custom made foundation on your skin is a flat top kabuki brush. It did not blend very well when I used my Beauty Blender with it. It is also prone to streaking if not blended quickly.

You can customize your coverage. 1 drop for sheer coverage, 2 drops for medium, 3 drops for full, 4 drops for complete coverage. I found the more drops I used the more drying it feels on my skin hence I prefer using no more than 2 drops.

Finish & Feel on skin:
The finish in natural looking, almost matte on the skin. It dries very quickly and leaves no greasy feel on skin. Using this product with a dewy/ radiance imparting product balances out the matte finish and makes it look much better.

This foundation felt very dry and cakey the first time used it. It accentuated every dry patch and fine line on my face. After much trial and error I figured it was because I was using way too much (I used almost 4 drops). It is not forgiving on my dry skin unless I use a heavy moisture base underneath. During summer my skin leans more towards normal-dry which is when I feel I can make do with using this product but come winter time this will be an absolute No-No. I cannot see this product working for mature skin.

I do not have issues of huge pores and it product did it accentuate them either. But it did settle in some of the fine lines(laugh lines) I have on my face.

Shade:
There is a huge shade range with this product and it is very difficult to find your right shade. I would advise to not go by the description on the website and try to order online but to go in store and see for yourself. There are a variety of undertones like P-for pale. G-for golden and N –for neutral but they are not always accurate.

I initially went for the shade N30 which was described as a light-medium skin tone with neutral undertone but it translated too pale and ghostly for my skin. I immediate exchanged it for the shade G40 in store which is described as medium with golden undertones. This shade does match my MAC NW23 skin well.

Staying Power:
This is a very long wear product. It is budge proof for more than 8 hours on my skin. My skin even though it is dry will get shiny by the end of the day. That did not happen with this product on the contrary since it is such a drying foundation on the skin the shine made it balance on my skin with a nice luminous appearance. Therefore I can say this foundation definitely looked better and well blended onto my skin as the day wore on.

Fragrance:
This product has a light synthetic scent which is not very pleasant but it does not linger for long on the skin.

Overall, this is quite an innovative product but it is actually much hassle than it is worth. For something which is designed to make life easier by allowing total customization, it is actually quite difficult to make this look good. I would totally advise against this foundation for people who do not have much experience with makeup or to those with dry and/or mature skin btype. If you really want a good foundation which helps you customize the coverage yet feels good on the skin, there are many light- medium coverage foundations in the market with a quality of being buildable upto a full (My recommendation will be Dior Nude air serum foundation) which is technically what you will eventually hope to achieve with this product too.

I will not recommend this foundation not because it is bad but because it has more cons in my mind than pros.

Pros of Cover FX Custom Cover Drops:

• Hygienic dropper dispenser
• Wide shade range
• Allows for customization for your existing products in the makeup kit
• Blends seamlessly when mixed with any base and does not separate
• Very long wearing
• Does not feel heavy on the skin

Cons of Cover FX Custom Cover Drops:

• Expensive
• Product gets all over the mouth of the bottle causing wastage
• Can be difficult to blend
• Finish is very matte looking, can sometimes make the skin look flat
• Feels very drying on the skin, very unforgiving for dry skin types
• Clings dry patches unless you apply a very hydrating base
• Can accentuate fine lines
