Help me with my Skin Moisturization:

First of all, thank you Rati for the wonderful blog. Almost all the doubts we have regarding skin care or products get clarified by simply following IMBB. But here I have small issues with my basic CTM process as i am a house wife(4 time being) and have a different routine than most you(read as working women & students).

I clean my face with a face wash while in shower (i think everyone does the same), tone with rose water and moisturise(ofcourse not when my skin is really damp) and head for my daily pooja followed by cooking, end of which my face gets greasy. (i have an oily / combination skin). Now i again follow the CTM process. I almost have the same routine in the evenings and i moisture my face with a night cream in the evenings and repeat before going to bed.

Now my doubt is:
1. I am concerned about doing the whole CTM process 4 times a day (twice in morning & once in the evening & once at night before hitting bed). And if i am going out in between 5th time. Because of this my oily zone is getting more oily & dry zone super dry. I suppose washing face more than twice a day is not advisable. So please help.
2. Regarding night cream, is it ok if i am applying it in the evening say around 6pm or is it to be strictly applied before going to bed.

Luv,
Veda

    1. even i wud like to knw that πŸ˜› πŸ˜› .. have the same skin type u see,im confused bout what product to use.. ?:-) ?:-)

  1. Thank you Rati.

I am using Jovees Tea Tree Oil Control Face wash( today is the last day). I am about to start with ‘Forest Essentials Kashmiri Saffron & Neem Facial Cleanser’ from tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Lotus Herbals AloeHydra Moisturising Gel

Ponds flawless white night cream 😐

  2. Hi Veda,

Please do not wash your face with soap/cleanser or face wash more than twice a day – once during ur shower and once at the end of the day is more than enough. Otherwise in the long run it does make your skin oilier. If you feel your skin may be getting oily during the day like after your puja just splash some cool water on your face and pat dry. Limit your CTM to twice a day – coz otherwise you are putting too many chemicals on your face – which can often irritate the skin. This is all I can suggest honestly – In my opinions its not so much the products you use (because different things suit different people) but when and how you use them that really makes a diff. I have extremely oily skin as well – so I can speak from experience.

    Best of luck !!!

  3. :-)) HMMM….while cooking use sunscreen! sunscreen is not just supposed to be used when out in the sun…….the heat form the cooking may darken your face……….
LOTUS hasfgood and affordable range of sunscreens……….

if your face turns greasy use a oil controlling lotion or you can also use powder…….
biotique chorophyll get may work for you………
    :-)) :-))

    1. You know I remember someone saying the same thing on another post and people wondered if it was true – but I know that the heat from the steam may not neccessarily tan your face but it will burn your face (not like a BURN but you know like a mild sunburn without the sun) and because Indian skin isnt like white – as a result our skin will darken as part of the healing process – so if you dont wanna wear sunscreen indoors – make sure while cooking that your face stays far away from the stove as possible πŸ˜›

  4. oh and forest essentials is a good option :-)) ..cos my sister has used jovees tea tree wash and she didnt like it at all…….
overall jovess is not a very good brand i think

  5. Thank you Janhavi. I was thinking about limiting the CTM to twice. Splashing water is not really making any good as face is getting back to its oily self after some time.

  6. oh n forest essentials is a good option :-)) my sis tried jovees tea tree wash n she doesnt like it
overall jovees is not a very good brand i think…

  7. Heres the thing Veda – your skin will not stop getting oily – your sebaceous glands will generate a fixed amount of oil no matter what you do – thats genetics or wtv. The only thing you can do to stop that is blot of the excess oiliness with compact/blotting powder or use a really good mattifying lotion. or keep wiping every few hours with a wet wipe …. but none of these can actually stop your face from generating as much oil as it it is pre-disposed to generating

    1. You’re right πŸ™‚ But I’ve also read that the skin generating oil is actually our body’s natural way of moisturizing. And if you use the right moisturizer you can reduce the amount of oil on your skin in the long run – like reprogramming the glands. I used to have very oily skin but with CTM (twice a day only, as I work) and switching to gel moisturizer, my skin is so much less oily. In fact I now have combination skin that is so much more manageable than my previous oily skin.

      1. Fair enough using the right moisturiser definitely helps πŸ˜€ I myself use pure coconut oil every night and Cetaphil moisturising lotion during the day and its definitely helped – But thats a long term thing like you said…. but as you said – our oil glands producing oils is our body’s way of moisturising so over-washing never helps na :-((

  8. hmmm…i always thought cetaphil lotions are for dry skins….never tried. 😯
right now using lotus hydra moisture gel…but somehow i ended up hating that :sidefrown: . I had a visible break out after i started using it (though i am not sure its because of this). I am not a fan of Lotus  I know many of you love Lotus products :shutmouth: . Same is the case with Biotique.
Now i have decided that never ever in my life again i will try anything from Lotus / biotique even if they are the only products available on earth.

  9. LOL that was a really amusing diatribe – I think different things work for different people – Have never used the lotus or biotique moisturisers so I really dunno. Yeah Cetaphil is for dry skin but people with normal or oily skin can use it tooo – its hypoallergenic and fragrance free so I use it because I have acne prone skin and its one of the few things that work on my skin and doesnt break me out at all – otherwise coconut oil zindabad ! πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

Veda dont stress too much about your skin – just find the products that work for you and stick to them :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

    *hug*

    1. Hello..I too have extremely oily skin especially in summers ..can coconut oil be used on skin like moustrizer or else then how to use coconut oil n of which kind..The regular one which we use for hair??
please help..my skin is acne prone too

  10. Hi Veda,

I have an extremely oily skin as well and an added bonus of acne :pissedoff: :pissedoff: . Try switching to a different toner, cause i used Rose water and i ended up oily-oily within half hour of not doing anything at all. Then i switched to using the Tea Tree toner for us oilies from Fab India. And you can try using the Aloe Vera Gel from Patanjali, its pure & herbal and treats my skin well. And its suuupahh cheap. so even if it doesnot work you wont feel the pinch in your pocket..hehe

For the cleanser try Neutrogena Oil Free Washes or even Fab India Tea Tree wash is good.

And yes i agree to what Janhavi said, my dermatologist also told me we can tan even indoors (cant believe sun rays are so strong that they can penetrate our walls !!!!) so we should be applying a sunscreen(milder SPF) while at home. For me Aloe Vera works as it has sun screen properties too..!!! πŸ˜€

  11. Thanks for the suggestions Mitra. πŸ™‚ Never heard of Patanjali before. Where do u get it??

    Janhavi,
my skin was truly super duper good and behaved well until recently. :kissed: :beauty: . It was actually the process of finding the products that work for me ruined my skin. πŸ˜› πŸ˜› :rotfl: :rotfl: :curse:

  12. You are welcome Veda… πŸ™‚

Patanjali is a brand from Baba Ramdev….err…the yoga guy….they have a chain of their clinics and stores all over india..just google up and you can locate one in your area if you are lucky….good luck :-))

  13. hi veda me too have a combination skin and let me tell you one thing combination skin is different from oily skin.. if you like u can try using few of the prods i use.. they may help u aswell because before using all of these my skin was totally unmanageable.. trust me
CLEAN AND CLEAR foaming facial wash- thi is a super face wash removes oil n impurities and makes u feel fresh
NEUTROGENA Ultra Sheen DRY-TOUCH SUNBLOCK this is oil free n got 50 spf best sunscreen ever
FAB INDIA tea tree face wash- i use this 2-3 times a week because it tends to make my skin dry
NEUTROGENA Combination Skin Oil-Free Moisture- thi is the superb i mean i dont have ne words… it does wonders for combi skin
also i agree wid the blotting sheets, it help a lot and i dont believe that cooking results in skin darkening (my view) lemme know if the above things help u ok..

  14. radhika,
i will surely start using sunscreen while cooking.
Jovees is not all that bad, infact it did not do anything bad at all as compared to Lotus.

  15. janhavi, the problem is i was not using any product before. :-)) except for a sunscreen. I was using some home made hand pound stuff for my face prepared by my granny and it really made my skin super good. :-*

  16. why did you stop then ???? coz if you have home made stuff it makes your skin super awesome – and maybe at times if you switch from natural stuff to chemical stuff it will make ur skin all wonky – is possible πŸ˜•

  17. Butterfly,
i too am eyeing NEUTROGENA Combination Skin Oil-Free Moisture πŸ™‚ . But this had negative reviews as well. so a little skeptical.
somehow can never get myself to try the clean and clear range.

  18. why did i stop???? i had no option….Only after my granny passed away last feb did i realise that i dont even know what & hows…. i kept guessing & trying things but in vain. Then came all the beauty blog surfing & the branded products which left my skin terrible

    1. *hug* :-(( am so sorry

I think maybe for a while try some natural stuff – since its what ur skin is used to – you know like besan to wash your wash, multani mitti etc

Like the reason people use toners is because soap destroys the ph balance of your skin – toners are used to help bring it back to normal so ur moisturiser can work better – so if ur not using a soap based cleanser or one that messes the ph of ur skin – no need for a toner. Moisturisers also dont have to be the chemical kind – I use coconut oil but lots of other people use olive oil or any other oil that suits their skin at night – try going all natural for a while – it may work no ?

  19. hey rati!! m new 2 ths blog..infact i came across this blog just by chance n must tell u tht i got hooked on it lke crazy..i ve been reading all d reviews for the past few days n ve laready bought quite a lotta stuff n must say m veryyy satisfied..m sooo glad i found ths blog..ifact i ve also started advising my friends about the products they shud try..
i juts ve a query..i ve a gal who has just turned 1 n i want to know abt sme ubtans for her that i can use..actually her body is pretty dark as compared 2 her face..can u guys help me plz…m sorry for posting my query here but i dnt know how 2 ask a ques,u see m pretty new 2 this blog..hellppp

  20. Hi Sonal,

This Ubtan is something i learn from my couz from Eastern India, who used it on her daughter to rid her of her body hair….and the side effect of it is that you also get healthy glowing blemishfree skin…..i dont think anything that you can can turn someone’s complexion fairer (genes) you can only “restore” your complexion if you were fair in the past.

Ubtan-turmeric+pure coconut oil. You gotta message this paste ALL over the body and face and let it stay for say 2-3mins and wash it off and you can follow with a baby soap or a mixture of besan+rice flour+masoor daal+milk in place of soap.

A depilatory ubtan, popular down south, helps reduce hair growth especially in babies between 9 months and 2 years of age. Mix 1 cup gram flour, Β½ tsp turmeric, juice of 1 lemon and milk. Keep on for 15 minutes before rubbing off dry against the direction of hair growth.

  21. I too have extremely oily skin
I use Nivea Visage face wash & Oriflame toner. I follow it up with a Garnier cream. For the night I use the same products for Cleaning & Toning & use an after-sun gel from Mary Kay.
The above products have really helped me.

I also use a face pack 1-2 times a week of Besan + sandalwopd powder + lemon.

  22. I’ve been using Clarin’s Cleanser, Fab India Rose water and Fab India Aloe Vera Gel for moisturizing. All the products have worked amazingly well for me

I had super duper oily skin and it’s improved my skin to a large extent πŸ™‚

  23. Hi,
    my skin is combination/oily.
I use 3-step from Clinique. Just CTM 2 times a day And it has done wonders for my skin.
If you don’t mind the high price range….do visit Clinique and try their stuff. Its awesome and healthy as its free of harmful chemicals and fragrance.
Atleast try the clarifying lotion (toner). It really makes a difference in your skin texture and controls oil.
    πŸ™‚

  24. Thank u so much Janhavi :-)) . I tried using many natural stuff like u said, multani mati was okayish if i am not using frequently but besan was a total flop :pissedoff:, fresh cream: yet another flop,…..tried many things & ended up knowing what doesnt suit me rather than what suits me. Infact i could find what’s good for the body but not the face.

I too use olive oil to moisturise at night. But what about the day????? ?:-) ?:-) ?:-)

My skin’s acting very crazy. The T zone is always oily(less oily / more oily). The rest of the face is Either its too dry or too oily.

  25. Thank you Monika & Priya. :-))

    Jinal,
Never looked at clinique. always thought its loaded with chemicals. 😐 Will check it. :-))
    Thank you.
