D-Day Checklist For Brides-To-Be

Hello Ladies….

Now, since it is the wedding season all over and I see so many of my girls getting married, especially this month, I thought of coming up with this post, which is about a quick checklist for all our brides-to-be, keeping in mind many a things like budget, time and cultural preferences.

And what really made me give all this a thought was, all the help I was trying to provide with choosing makeup, shopping etc to one of my close friends, who is getting married on the 17th of this month. My friend is in total chaos with so little time and considerably less exposure in most bridal things.

So, to keep it short and simple, let us first index all the Do’s a girl should keep in mind before the big day. And the time period am taking to talk about all these Do’s is one month.

So let’s get started with it.

  1. Parlour Appointments
  2. Essentials
  3. Makeup
  4. A pair of golden heels
  5. Lingerie
  6. Home Treatments
  7. Bridal Artist
  8. Eating Right
  9. Staying Happy

Wouldn’t you agree that every girl wants to look ‘A perfect 10’ on her big day?!. Well honey, if you want to be the Princess on your D-Day, then you will have to put in a little planning and some effort, before you can look drop-dead gorgeous for your Price Charming.

So, the besides all the chaos and all those shopping trips you take along with your mommy dearest, cahchi’s ,mami’s and aunty’s, you will have to block some dates for yourself to take care of some much-needed stuff.

Parlour Appointments:

Get in touch with a recent bride or someone you can really trust who has a lot of knowledge about the best Parlour services around the area you live in, narrow down to a list of 2-3 parlours and find out about what best they can offer based on your requirements.

Once you know which parlour can give you the best at your budget, fix a month-long appointment cycle with them, where they plan various treatments for you, say example, tan removal, bleaching, hair removal, facials, hair cuts and trims, manicures and pedicures, full body wax etc. It will become easier for you to take care of every single concern you have if you fix multiple appointments at fixed intervals in that one month. Also keep in mind the number of days you allow between each facial treatment you take.

Discuss and communicate with the person who is going to deal with your package as much as possible so that he/she understands better what you want. I have seen my sister follow this routine and it has been very easy and hassle-free for her to deal with every issue she had over the period of 30 days.

Essentials:

Jot down a list of things you would need to have when you reach your new place. You will obviously need to be well-prepared, as you cannot depend on anything else when you are in a new environment amidst new people. So you know what you would need, all the creams and lotions, you bathing essentials like soaps and shampoos, cleansers and scrubs, bathrobes etc. Make sure you are not missing out on your skincare kit too. A travel pouch to fit all this would be a good idea, just in case you might have to travel immediately after the wedding.

Makeup:

When it comes to makeup, most of us are very conscious and don’t want to look too made up or we are just too shy to flaunt that red pout and bold look. But always remember if you are confident, then you can pull off any look and your confidence adds more to your entire look, compared to what any amount of makeup and grooming can do. Hence, pull those socks up girl!. It’s your big day and you want no leaf unturned to look your best.

Be bold and wise at the same time when you go makeup shopping, choose products that not only compliment your skin tone, but should also go with your outfit. Hunt as much as you can until you find that exact shade of whatever cosmetic you are looking for, try as many make-overs as you can, no harm because you are only trying to bring out the best in you. And most Indian bridal outfits look best when paired with a red lip color, hence try and experiment with red as much as you can. Take help from a friend who can give you best advice when it comes to makeup, be it about budget-shopping or about what looks best on you and what doesn’t.

A Pair Of Golden Heels:

Always remember to pick up a pair of golden heels as they should work mostly with any kind of Indian traditional outfit and hence should keep you safe in any kind of “last-minutes” situation. Invest in a elegant pair of heels that compliment your posture and something in which you can comfortably carry that heavy outfit.

Lingerie:

Sssh!!! is what usually comes out of most of the girls when the topic of lingerie is up. Ah! May be we are still a little hesitant to talk about it but c’mon! you know you want to look stunning for him. Don’t you?! You can admit it girl!! So break out of the shell, walk in to a lingerie store and pick up the most elegant and may I use the work sexy lingerie you can find. Feel confident not only from the outside but also on the inside. I know I am sounding very cheesy, but you know what I am talking about right?!

Home Treatments:

As much as we can depend on parlour treatments and all that cosmetic help we get in the market, it is always a good idea to indulge in some natural therapy too at home. Here is when it’s time for all our “nani’s nuskhas” to come handy, find out what works best for your skin and make sure you fix a routine of using that natural remedy at home for that glowing skin. I am sure all of us have one home remedy that has always worked wonders for us.

Bridal Artist:

And, on that special day, when you want to look like a million bucks, make sure you have the right person on the job. Find out the best bridal artist in town for your bridal makeup, discuss the look you want to achieve, stress on what you are looking at and be as communicative as possible if you want things to be working your way. Of course be open to what the bridal artist suggests, if you are totally unaware about the look you want to achieve.

Have him/ her use all the products that you have chosen for yourself in line with the outfit. Allot ample time for the makeup session just in case something goes wrong and you might have to re-do things, do not panic, trust the artist, but that still means you should know what you really want to see yourself like.

Eating Right:

Now after all that effort you have been putting in to look gorgeous on the outside, also make sure you are putting in the right things to stay healthy on the inside. Make sure you are eating as many fruits as possible and the water intake has to be kept in mind, specially for that natural glow. Avoid all the junk and fat. Keep the diet healthy, natural and nutritious for the last thing you want amongst all the chaos, is falling sick.

Staying Happy:

And the most important thing to do is STAY HAPPY. Smile and laugh as much as you can. Your state of mind reflects on your face and the more you are joyful, it is going to show on your face. Avoid any kind of mental stress, you don’t want that pimple to pop-up there! Stay around people who will always keep you smiling, avoid any kind of negativity or any talks that might depress you. Stay happy and you sure are going to make a beautiful, glowing bride.

So, these were a few things I could observe that need to be taken care of from all the chaos I see my friends going through. So I thought I shall share this checklist with you girls. Now, I am no expert at all this, this is just out of general observation. Hope you girls like this. And always remember, too many cooks spoil the broth!. So always try and take advice from you most trusted and take your own decisions as you know what ‘s best for you!

Take care girls…

  3. Wedding day can be tiresome and with all new relatives and responsibilities, with those fake smiles irrespective of tiredness and tension we tend to forget a lot even to apply eyeliner..I forgot to wear vaddanam (gold waist jewellery) and other pieces on my reception day…Even my mother forgot …she was too busy with her work to notice me..Its almost 2 yrs now but I still repent for not getting ready for my reception when ever I look at pictures.
