Day Cream for Oily Skin: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Nidhi P Asks

Hello Beauties!

I want to know about a good day cream for the face for summers. I have combination skin, which in summer, becomes dry around the lips and on the jawline. Whatever I use, my face tends to look oily after some time. This is the reason I do not use sunscreens or precisely any other thing on the face during daytime because they make my face look oily. I use only FabIndia rose water, but I want to apply a day cream :)What kind of a cream should I use, should I go for a gel type of a thing?

Thanks in advance to all the beautiful females who take time out to resolve my queries.

  1. I would highly recommend vichy’s normaderm range, it has a good hydrating day cream which goes on skin smooth and gives a nice matte effect precisely what we want in summers!

  2. Olay 7-n-1 total effects. I have exactly the same skin type as you and this works really well. i would suggest a sunscreen such as la roche posay which dosent make the skin too greasy and then apply your makeup over it. you can totally skip the moisturizer in this case.

    good luck.. :teddy:

  3. if you want to use a sunscreen you may go in for a gel based sunscreen…lotus has one…and if you want a lotion (no creams for oily/ combination skin), use neutrogena oil free moisture with SPF 15….it really suits my oily skin very well, is mattifying for 1-2 hours, has not broken me out, and is very light! if your face gets oily after some time, use a compact…. you may also use MAC matte for controlling the oil (i’ve reviewed it here on IMBB), but skipping a moisturiser is :nonono: :nonono: :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

    1. interesting..i woud think if I have a sunscreen on I could totally skip the moisturizer..would love to know wat the others have to say..i just use a sunscreen and then apply my concealer and powder and I am done..a lipstick and eyeliner too..

      1. hey Aru, if the sunscreen pack says ‘moisturising’, then its alright by itself….but if its a gel, then a moisturiser beneath is a must…..most girls with oily/ combination skin skip the moisturiser, thinking skin to pehle hi oily hai :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: …..but ‘moisture’ and ‘oil’ are 2 separate entities…..moisture is a must…. oil can be taken care of, imo…

    2. Ritu, me too do the same :high5: , mostly i dont use any creams in summers, it will never suit my combination skin, it will break me out :headbang: .. i use neutrogena oil free moisturizer and then compact.. thats it..
At night i use olay moisturizing lotion..

      1. Aru… I have oily skin..used to think sunscreen alone is enough..but after IMBB…every day I apply Clinique dramatically different moisturizer before my sunscreen(Lotus 3 in 1 matte)… sunscreen doesn’t provide the necessary moisture required for the skin..thats what me read in the internet… experts please correct me if I am wrong…

        1. Thanks Ritu and Lalitha. shud do the moisturizer too. was avoiding putting too many things on my face and thot just the sunscreen was enuf. i have used Olay for the longest time but I purchased the clinique balanced foundation a month or so ago and love it..its so light. wondering if its time for me to invest in the clinique moisturizer..

          1. i think if its moisturising, it should be fine…..try using products with moisture + SPF during day…..and totally avoid things with SPF at night…..i read somewhere that using creams with SPF at night does nothing at all for your skin….. :((

      2. my skin is so oily that i cant use creams in winters also…lotions are my saviours….
i also never skip the night cream….

        1. thats my other headache..the nutranite night cream was working great but i got bored and never tried another one again after that. time to visit the clinique counter again 🙂

          1. haha 😆 😆 😆 ….we just need a reason to visit our Clinique’s, EL’s, Forest Essential’s and MAC’s and what not…. :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog:

        2. My skin is also painfully oily too but I have found a miracle to control oil throughout the day… I use chickpea flour (besan) mixed with water/rosewater but not milk in morning n night. I leave it for anytime between 5 min- 60 min. The time duration you leave it on your skin depends how much oil yu want to control. Use it once or twice for shorter time n change as per your requirements. Have fun!!!
Also, I forgot to mention, it controlled my facial oil in Delhi heat n humidity

  4. i use lacto calamine (or Dermocalm) lotion and follow up with lotus spf 40 matte sunsceen……follow up with a face powder (with or without a foundation in between)……….the effect is just right….niether oily nor paper-dry…
U can also use Clinique moisturizer for oily/combination skin or Vichy ‘s…..I’ve used both and both are very good……..lacto calamine is just wayy cheaper… :dumb:

    1. Lacto calamine, dries my cheek areas completely :(( even with an additional moiturizer.. however its good for my forehead and nose (T-Zone area), :stars: :stars: this combination skin i just hate it :scream: :scream: :scream:
either it should be a complete dry skin or oily skin

  5. Lacto Calamine is probably the best (and the cheapest  ) solution for such a skin. You could also try Neutrogena oil-free lotion. I haven’t tried it but an oily-skinned friend loves it. 😀

  6. heyloo..i myself have a combination skin… i’ll say try aroma magic hydro gel…its really light ..its a total transparent gel thing.. wen u apply it on your face, its like applying water..doesn’t make the face sticky or oily…gives a fresh feeling..try the smallest tub for trial..and its very economic also..rs 85 for 25g..worth giving it a shot…all the very best

  7. in my opinion you should go for lakme perfect radiance day cream

    https://makeupandbeauty.com/lakme-perfect-radiance-day-cream-review/

even though i have normal skin but during summers it tends to get oily on the t zone 🙁 🙁 🙁

this cream makes me sweat less , mattifies my and comes dirt cheap at 175 inr :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

fif possible swatch it on your hands first 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 one swatch will be enough to know whether it is THE PRODUCT for you

    1. Hi Anshu – I read your earlier review on this cream and i saw that it is mostly for dry skin and mine is a normal to oily sin type..can i use it or is it ONLY for dry skin?

      1. yup aru you can definitely give it a shot :)) :)) :)) (that review is not by me :nababana: )

hope it helps you :)) :))

as for me it works perfectly :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  8. You can try the Loreal hydrafresh range. I have reviewed one in IMBB. I have combination -dry skin.it suits me well even in summers .
Otherwise you can also try Neutrogena oil free moisturiser for combination skin
    Olay 7 in 1 (gentle)
    hope this helps ! O:)

  9. Nidhi….I vouch for Revlon Touch and Glow day cream…its perfect for summers and winters…..it does not make the face to sweat and it does not break my skin out….perfect for me :yahoo: :yahoo:

  10. Lotus whiteglow emulsion is also very suitable as a day cream. It gets absorbed very quickly. Can someone tell me if maybelline BB cream can be used on daily basis?

    1. i guess yu will have to use an additional sunscreen over it, spf 18 is too low … rest :happydance: :happydance:

      1. Ankita, I’m using the BB cream daily… and it’s been great! I’ve got compliments for my glowing skin these days 😀 Of course I use a moisturizer and sunscreen before it.

  11. i’d suggest oriflame even out day cream, its very light moisturizer dat doubles up as light sunscreen n also evens out skin 🙂
also revlon touch and glow is another favorite, it mysteriously prevents tanning so effectively for me, that even spf 30/40 fail to do . .. absolutely lovable 🙂 🙂

    1. did I read correctly?? :specs: :specs: :specs: :specs: prevents tanning :waiting: :waiting: :waiting:
me running to get it…. :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog:

      1. yes ritu,
i so love it. . .m rarely out in sun for a lon time but i get tanned very early so even 5 mins makes my skin look dull. . but with touch and glow. . . latency period is so much increased . . .
i wish it does the same to yu 🙂 🙂 . . . but get a trial first nahi toh yu will :spank: :spank: :spank: me 😛 😛

  12. My vote is neutrogena oil free moisture… My skin around my lips is dry during summer too.. I apply Garnier for dry and sensitive skin on that area alone.. :))

  13. I have an oil factory of a face, and I’d suggest Oriflame Mattifying Day gel-cream (somehow my skin can’t stand creams, it’s always gel for me!) and Lotus MatteGel Sunscreen SPF 40, or Melascreen sunscreen lotion (isn’t easily availble though 🙁 ) And yes, a good compact is a must for us oilies to soak it all up! :victory: :victory:
