My Experience with Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:
I have oily, acne-prone skin which had been pretty calm and clear for the last couple of years, but 2 months ago, it started acting up all of a sudden and left me with red, acne-filled, scarred face; an be a nightmare for anybody. I tried a lot of things, applied clindamycin gel at night, Himalaya neem face pack twice every day, Salicylic face wash, Garnier pure active spot treatment but nothing seemed to help!
So, I got this after reading rave reviews calling it a “miracle product.” I have a mixed response to this though.
It comes in a sophisticated cylindrical container, which is very travel friendly. There’s a button on one end and cap on the other. You have to turn the button anticlockwise and then press it gently, it dispenses the fluid on the other end. Initially, it’s difficult to control the amount of the product dispensed, but gradually you learn.
I have no problems with the packaging except that it’s opaque, therefore difficult to determine how much product is left.
The fluid is neither too thick nor too thin in consistency, it’s white in color, but becomes transparent after getting absorbed.
It took about 2-3 days for my zits to subside with this treatment and it also reduced the redness around the zit within 2-3 hours of application. It’s effective, better than the cheaper products available, but nothing miraculous. It works only on the current zits and doesn’t prevent future breakouts. It dries them out gradually.
Pros of Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:
- Functional and travel-friendly packaging.
- Gets easily absorbed and nonsticky and transparent.
- Quite effective against superficial pimples.
- Made in the USA (not China, so reliable).
- Not tested on animals.
Cons of Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:
- Expensive and quantity is a bit less for the price (almost Rs. 140 for each ml).
- Doesn’t work too well against deep-seated, non-cystic breakouts.
- Doesn’t prevent blemishes left behind by the big ones.
- Doesn’t prevent future acne (but that’s because it’s a spot treatment only).
- Strong sulfur smell which takes time to get used to.
- My whole facial skin starts to get oily very quickly whenever I apply this on the breakouts, so I need to blot frequently (that’s why I prefer applying it at night).
- Not easily available in India.
Last Word on Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:
I do like this product and I think it would be effective in treating the normal breakouts, but since my skin has been resisting all sorts of treatments, I can’t blame this one alone. Thankfully, the acne has been subsiding (on it’s own I think) now. I am going to continue using it since there’s a dearth of good spot treatment products for breakouts, available in India. It has received great reviews by others and therefore I do feel it’s a good product. If you have breakouts, you should give this one a try.
