Dermalogica spot treatment

Directions For Use:

Before moisturizing, apply as a spot treatment directly to the breakout and allow to dry. Apply every 6-8 hours as needed until the breakout clears.

My Experience with Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:

I have oily, acne-prone skin which had been pretty calm and clear for the last couple of years, but 2 months ago, it started acting up all of a sudden and left me with red, acne-filled, scarred face; an be a nightmare for anybody. I tried a lot of things, applied clindamycin gel at night, Himalaya neem face pack twice every day, Salicylic face wash, Garnier pure active spot treatment but nothing seemed to help!

So, I got this after reading rave reviews calling it a “miracle product.”  I have a mixed response to this though.

Dermalogica

It comes in a sophisticated cylindrical container, which is very travel friendly. There’s a button on one end and cap on the other. You have to turn the button anticlockwise and then press it gently, it dispenses the fluid on the other end.  Initially, it’s difficult to control the amount of the product dispensed, but gradually you learn.

spot treatment

I have no problems with the packaging except that it’s opaque, therefore difficult to determine how much product is left.

Dermalogica spot treatment gel

The fluid is neither too thick nor too thin in consistency, it’s white in color, but becomes transparent after getting absorbed.

Dermalogica clean

It took about 2-3 days for my zits to subside with this treatment and it also reduced the redness around the zit within 2-3 hours of application. It’s effective, better than the cheaper products available, but nothing miraculous. It works only on the current zits and doesn’t prevent future breakouts. It dries them out gradually.

Pros of Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:

  • Functional and travel-friendly packaging.
  • Gets easily absorbed and nonsticky and transparent.
  • Quite effective against superficial pimples.
  • Made in the USA (not China, so reliable).
  • Not tested on animals.

Cons of Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:

  • Expensive and quantity is a bit less for the price (almost Rs. 140 for each ml).
  • Doesn’t work too well against deep-seated, non-cystic breakouts.
  • Doesn’t prevent blemishes left behind by the big ones.
  • Doesn’t prevent future acne (but that’s because it’s a spot treatment only).
  • Strong sulfur smell which takes time to get used to.
  • My whole facial skin starts to get oily very quickly whenever I apply this on the breakouts, so I need to blot frequently (that’s why I prefer applying it at night).
  • Not easily available in India.

Rating:

3.75/5.

Last Word on Dermalogica Clean Start Hit the Spot:

I do like this product and I think it would be effective in treating the normal breakouts, but since my skin has been resisting all sorts of treatments, I can’t blame this one alone. Thankfully, the acne has been subsiding (on it’s own I think) now. I am going to continue using it since there’s a dearth of good spot treatment products for breakouts, available in India. It has received great reviews by others and therefore I do feel it’s a good product. If you have breakouts, you should give this one a try.

  1. Good to know u found something which helps.

During my teenage years and college days tried exactly same stuff uv mentioned (clindamycin gel at night, Himalaya neem face pack twice every day, Salicylic face wash, Garnier pure active spot treatment) din’t work for me too .. So had some scars left around from those days.

From last 1-2 years i have the solution and magical part about that product is it isn’t irritating infact is soothing to apply as it has aloe vera in it and my pimples go away in 2 days time ..voila ..plus it is negliable price 😉

Hope u try this and it works for u too… take care 🙂
    Product is :
Persol Gel from Wallace Benzoyl peroxide 2.5% w/w volume:20gm and price: Rs. 40.00

    Good Luck!

  2. Hi..I would also like to recommend benzoyl peroxide gel (2.5%)..It does all that you have listed in the pros of this product and more i.e soothes and removes redness, dries and heals the pimple..and is around 70-80 rs..I had a terrible outbreak of acne around 1 yr back..I would suggest that you visit a reputed dermo..he would probably recommend d above and other standard things in the treatment of acne..It would cost lesser or maybe equal to what you’ll be spending on self treatment with products like these and would probably be more effective in permanently clearing your acne..take care

    1. :thanks: asvita. will definitely look for it. had already visited the derma. she’s the one who had recommended clindamycin and salicylic face wash…i was just too busy to go back for the follow up. :(( :((

  3. i looved the packaging tinkerbell. and the product also sound pretty good. the quantity is really less but sometimes when somethings work for our skin, we dont mind paying the price no? 🙂

    1. haha exactly rati! :haanji: but if the benzoyl peroxide gel, that the ladies above mentioned, really works as good, i guess i’ll switch! :silly: i love the suggestions that pour in at imbb. pretty helpful! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

  4. i saw dermalogica review and i went :woot: :woot: :woot:
but it doesnt prevent blemishes so now im :(( :((

but a very nice well written review tinkerbell..!!! u touched all aspects of such a product
thanks for the review 🙂 🙂

    1. :thanks: :thanks: neha
actually, dermalogica, like other skincare brands, comes with a whole kit. they have different products working on blemishes, breakouts, blackheads etc simultaneously, when used together. problem is, each of them is as expensive… :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

  5. Nidhi is the persol gel that u have suggested available in medical stores in india ,i am also suffering from acne for the last few months and its leaving a lot of scars on my face .. :sidefrown: .The rosacnil gel which was recommended by jomol is not available in the medical stores here in kolkata

    1. Yes it is available in India tell the chemist its from Wallace . In case they don’t have in stock inform them to check with Wallace Pharmaceuticals pvt ltd . I’v tried BP 2.5% from other brands but they dint suit me and were irritating. Wallace wala is soothing.

      Good Luck!

  6. nice review tinkerbell….but i guess benzoyl peroxide works equally well…my derma recommended me to start with 2.5% n then after a months use shifted to 5%..then then again after a month to 2.5%..n in winters completely stopped it…. 🙂 check with ur derma regularly…n keep a follow up so that the treatment is effective….

    1. yes dimpi, i think i will see my dermatologist after exams :haanji: …although the whole acne problem has settled down. i’ll still need to work on getting rid of the blemishes. till then, concealers are my best friends! 😉 😉

  7. Nice review,Tinkerbell!
It doesnt work on the scars left behind by pimples, so this is practically of no use to me, since in my case, the pimples dry out on their own in their own sweet time,of course.

  8. @Nidhi N @ Asvita- i wanna know if product recommended by u works on scars or not… ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) plz help.. thanku…
n nice review tinkerbell :snicker: :snicker: :snicker:

    1. Hi Keirti product is not for acne scars. Its for active pimples.

For Acne Scars please visit Dermatologist. In case they are spots they may suggest glycolic peel or some ointment which will lighten or fade old scars. But if they are ice pick/boxcar/rolling scars then they will suggest dermaroller/laser treatment or something like that.

      Take Care,
      Nidhi

  9. nice review.. you have brought in together all the aspects of the product..
when i approached derma during my college days cos of more acne, he suggested me a product named “cleargel”; I am not sure of its ingredients.. It did wonders to me.. It also reduced pimple scars to some extent.. But made my face further more oily.. u can try this too..

  10. It seems okay enough but the price is a complete turn-off. I’d rather try out some cheaper alternatives. :methinks: :methinks:
:thanks: for the awesome review,Tinks! :shying: :pompom:
