Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant Review

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant

Hi Beauties,

All through my brief journey with IMBB into the world of skincare and make-up, I realised that I have not yet spoken about exfoliation. Exfoliation is the process by which we remove the dead cells from our skin. There are two types of exfoliants:

Physical and Chemical. We all know about physical exfoliants like Scrubs, Microdermabrasions, Machines like Clarisonic. However, today I am going to review a chemical exfoliant which is very dear to my heart and which I use routinely. I have normal to dry skin, and do not exfoliate my skin very often. I do so maybe once a week. When I do exfoliate my skin, this is the product which I reach for the most. According to me, physical scrubs really do very harsh scrubbing of the face, and may cause more tear of skin cells and damage to the tissues, scratch my skin and dry it out. Chemical ones have a far more gentle effect on the skin.

From the Website:Thoroughly remove dulling surface debris and dramatically improve skin texture with Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant, a non-abrasive hydroxy acid exfoliation treatment. Suitable for all skin conditions, except environmentally sensitised.A convenient two-in-one masque/exfoliation treatment, Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant provides chemical exfoliation using lactic acid and salicylic acid, which slough off the dead skin cells, speeding cell renewal, while extracts of lavender, aloe vera and cornflower help soothe skin. Contains no artificial fragrance or colour. Non Abrasive formula contains Lactic acid and Hydroxy acid to help detach dead skin cells, increasing cell renewal while improving texture for dramatically smooth skin.

My Experience with Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant:

It comes in a greyish color box packaging, in which is housed a white color tube. The tube is covered with a grey flip cap, which shuts with a click. The tube is flexible, squeezytube; hence it is very travel friendly. The tube contains 75 ml of product.

The product is white in color, very thick, almost like a face pack. The consistency is creamy, almost clay like. It has a chemical like but nice smell. It is very difficult to spread it on dry skin. I first clean my face and neck with a cleanser, then apply a very thin layer of this on my moist skin (avoiding the eyes and lips area). It is recommended to be used for maximum 10-15 minutes; hence I do keep an eye on the clock and never try to overdo it. When I used it the first time, I had a slight tingling, itchy sort of feeling on my face, but it subsided in 3-4 minutes. The first time I washed off my face after 5 minutes only, but now I no longer have any itchy sensation, so I keep it for around 10 minutes. It dries up on my face in around 5 minutes only. I then wash my face with lukewarm water, slightly massaging my face as I do so. I would advise everyone to first do a patch test behind their ear or on their arm, and only then apply it to the whole face.

I have dry and dull skin, and it really clears away all the dead cells, leaving a bright and radiant effect on my face. It removes any dry patches on my cheeks (usually in winters), and does help my moisturiser to sink in well. I have never had any redness or sensitivity issues with this product. My face feels very clean and fresh after using this. Also, it does not make my skin more dry, rather my skin becomes more soft and supple. It deep cleans my pores and leaves my skin very clean and rejuvenated. I have been using this tube for 9 months now…and there is still some product left in the tube.

However, it contains salicylic acid, which can be drying on the skin. Hence I used it only once a week, which, believe me, is enough for my skin. Oily and acne prone skin types are really going to love this and can use it twice a week.

Will I repurchase Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant?

I have already repurchased it, when I got a good deal on Dermalogica products. The only concern for me regarding this product is the price. Apart from that, it’s totally skin friendly for me.
