Background: With the advent of monsoons, no foundation or powder seems to work on the skin. Plus you don’t even want to wear all that stuff. Already the face is so grimy and feels heavy all the time, thanks to the humidity. So the more research I did, the more it became clear to me that for Indian conditions, the perfect product to use would be a tinted moisturizer. Then I began looking for one and surprisingly, found that not many companies make one yet that is suitable for Indian skin tones. Here are the brands I considered: ponds, biotique, Mac, body shop, and dermalogica.
Once I zeroed in on these, by the process of elimination on various fronts, I found that dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture would be best suited to my sensitive, oily, pimple prone skin. It is not easily available so I bought it by locating the online Dermalogica store here:
There is a health clinic in New Delhi which sells Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture and you can locate the store from the link above. There are doctors and sales staff who recommends the product suited for you. I was going to go in for the medium tint, but the doctor as well as staff suggested light.
What Dermalogica website says about it: vital nutrients and moisture protection for every skin.
Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture SPF15 is a convenient, three-in-one Product: a light weight, oil-free moisturizer, a sheer color wash and sun protection. For those who prefer no tint, Sheer Tint Moisture SPF15 also provides hydrating, non-greasy moisture and SPF15 protection without the sheer color. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.
Active Ingredients: Octinoxate and Zinc Oxide.
Directions for use: Wash face and apply like any other moisturizer. The quantity in the image above is how much you need for your face. I use the same amount for my neck.
My Experience with Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture: Hmm. This is a tough cookie to describe. I found that it moisturizes my face well. My skin glows for a long time after using this once at the start of the day. It does not provide much coverage. All the acne scars etc. are dulled though. I think what happens when you wear this product is that your face gets a luminous glow; as a result, the attention gets shifted from the scars and imperfections to the radiance on the face. It did not cause me to break out. So I should be very happy with the product right? Well…I’m not over the moon about it. Out of everything available in India, this is the best for sure. But I find that lacto calamine, our very own Indian tinted moisturizer costs so less and delivers a lot better. I run to LC much more than this foreign guy. LC improves the skin texture over time. This doesn’t. But in providing sheen, and if you want an ‘I’m going out and I want to look great’ moisturizer, this cuts it. As you can see in the image below, the sheen on my hand is unmistakable.
Quantity and Price: The bad part is the quantity: price ratio. It cost me a little more than Rs. 2000 . So you can see my dedication in wanting a tinted moisturizer. The Mac one was for 1700 but I trusted dermalogica skin care a little more after reading fantastic reviews and the fact that all celebrities swear by this skin care stuff in Hollywood. Quantity is pathetic: 44ml/1.5fl oz. For what it’s worth, it’s supposed to last a long time since very little is needed for each use.
Packaging and fragrance: Packaging is very convenient. It’s the tube with a nozzle that lets you control fully how much product comes out. Fragrance is not bad.
Pros of Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture Spf15 (Light):
1. It is three in one product: moisturizer, spf and light foundation.
2. It is supposed to be for all skin types.
3. For all seasons except winters, this can prove to be very useful.
4. It did not cause me to break out or cause any reaction to the skin.
5. Lasts a long time (the glow, not the tube).
6. Contains antioxidants.
7. Very little needed for your entire face.
8. Knowledgeable SA and doctors who recommend products for your skin type.
Cons of Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture Spf15 (Light):
1. Horribly expensive: Rs 2100 for 44ml. C’mon!!! No wonder only celebrities use this stuff.
2. I really didn’t find it worth the money to be honest,
3. Not easily available at the malls and stuff.
4. Chemical based product. I don’t like.
Would I recommend it? Okay. This is a tough one. I would if you can afford it. Go buy it by all means as it is not a bad product. If you are someone who feels pain shelling out so much, go for something like Lacto calamine. This product is not the God I expected it to be.
Would I purchase it again? No
