I am completely obsessed about my hair, but a few months ago, I didn’t like my hair at all because my hair was neither straight nor curly. It was when I was researching for good and natural curly hair products that I came across this line called “DevaCurl.” It has many different variants of products catering wavy, curly, and super curly hair. I think my hair fall in the “S-shaped waves” category, so I went ahead and first tried the “Original” line that’s for all hair types.

I got mine here in Canada at the Chatters Salon for CAD 23.95 but you can also find them online at Sephora’s website also.

Product Description and Claims:
It is 100% sulfate, paraben and silicone free which is a boon for curly hair. It is not tested on animals and completely safe for colored hair. It has a very refreshing citrusy scent. It contains chamomile which is soothing for your scalp. It lathers up well without stripping your hair of any moisture, giving hair very nice shine. It can be used as any regular shampoo in the shower.

My Experience with DevaCurl Low-Poo Original:
Texture: It has a medium to thick consistency and a very subtle lime green color which looks almost clear. It has a great slip and feels so nourishing when used. It smells heavenly. For my medium length hair, I need approximately 2-3 pumps.
As I have mentioned earlier, I didn’t love my hair at all a few months back because they lacked moisture and shine. I always straightened them which further damaged my hair. It was then that I decided to try this “not-so-cheap” brand of products. I must say I made the right investment. My hair no longer feels dry and brittle. As the product claims, this makes my hair clean without weighing it down. I can definitely see the definition it provides to my curls right from the first use. This curl definition stays till my next wash, i.e. approximately 3-4 days. You can feel the softness it provides to your hair right from the point you start rinsing it off in the shower. It feels as if you have already used a conditioner whereas in reality, it is only the “low-poo” one. In a nutshell, this has become a holy grail product in my hair care regimen.
Let’s quickly sum up the pros and cons:
Pros of DevaCurl Low-Poo Original:
- Says what it claims – doesn’t dry out my hair and imparts shine.
- Very pleasant smell, which feels refreshing.
- Bang for your buck.
- A 12 Fl. oz bottle will last you for approximately 5-6 months, depending on how many times you wash your hair. (I use it twice weekly).
- Gel-based shampoo, which is my personal preference over cream-based shampoos.
- Packaging is a sturdy plastic bottle and some stores do carry different size variants which makes it travel-friendly.
- 100% sulfate, silicone and paraben free.
Cons of DevaCurl Low-Poo Original:
- Availability.
- Expensive, but for me, it is not a con as the high price is completely justified.
Verdict: Highly highly recommend it. For all my curly-haired beauties, you must give it a try.
