DHC Single Colour Eyeshadow – B03 Review

Hi guys,

I recently came across a DHC store and decided to pick up one of their single eyeshadows just to test out the formula and see how it fits in with me. Was it a resounding success? Read on further to know more details 🙂

DHC Single Colour Eyeshadow

Packaging: It comes in a small plastic container with silver design on the top. It looks very beautiful, but is so compact and tiny. Because of the closure, the container is secure enough for travel.

Shade: The shade is a cool-toned, slightly metallic-looking silvery taupe. This one has a slight silver undertone to it, especially when the light hits it. The shade also has small specks of glitter/shimmer. It is the perfect definition of a mid-tone shade, as in, it is not too light and not too dark. So, if you like cool taupes, you might like this one. At first, I felt it is close to Pewter from Lorac Pro 1 palette. But the Pewter shade has more of a warmer undertone and this one has a cooler undertone and both of them swatch out differently. It is also different when compared to Chrome from Lorac Pro 2. So, it is a unique shade in my collection. I picked it up especially because it was cool toned and I wanted to get out of my habit of using only warm neutrals everyday. Sometimes you just want to switch things up.

Consistency: This shade can be used wet, but it doesn’t give a foiled effect unfortunately. Sometimes using shadows wet can make the shadow in the pan hard, but this one does not do that. The consistency of this one is quite powdery and in the pan, it feels like a pressed powder. There is no creaminess or softness to the touch. That being said, it blends like a dream. It does not take a lot of effort to blend and spread this over the eyelid. Fallout? There’s quite a bit of fallout because of it being powdery. You will get a rain of powder on your cheeks and under-eye area if you try to pack it on, so I recommend using it wet to minimise the fallout.

Pigmentation: I would say it has medium+ colour payoff because it is in between medium and full pigmentation.

Staying Power:  I have tried using this without and with primer, and as expected, it lasts better and is more vibrant with primer. I have oily eyelids, so a primer is a routine and necessary step for me anyway. Without primer, the shadow lasted 2-3 hours on me.

How I like to use it: I love to use it to create an everyday smokey look. I would wear this even for a grocery run, that’s how much I have been loving it! I use it in conjunction with the Sleek Oh So Special Palette. First, I lay down the transition shadows (the shades Ribbon and The Mail). Then, I put on the DHC shadow all over the lid. For the outer V, I add the cool-toned dark brown (Wrapped Up). This is one of my favourite looks of all time; the cool-toned lid shade nicely balanced with a warm crease. Even though this is a mid-tone shade, I do not recommend it for a one-shadow look.

Cons of DHC Single Colour Eyeshadow – B03:

  • Is quite powdery – creates a lot of fallout.
  • Medium+ pigmentation.

IMBB Rating:
3.75/5

Final Thoughts:
The only way in which this differs from the drugstore eyeshadows (DHC is a high-end brand) is the blendability factor. It does not take a lot of effort to blend even though it is quite powdery and it can be tricky to control the placement of colour. I love that this blends amazingly but that is not enough for me. I wish the quality was a little better, in terms of pigmentation and consistency.

  1. Love it for the shade but fallout with eyeshadows is not acceptable. I have a similar shade, don’t remember from which brand, it is creamy and I love it.
