Diptyque Do Son Eau De Toilette Spray Review

Hello Beautiful ladies,

Today, I will be giving you a full fragrance description of Do Son Eau de Toilette by Diptque. Do son, created by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin was launched in 2005. Diptyque is a niche perfumery brand that has the greatest varieties of fragrances. Each one is unique. They are especially popular for their home fragrances and candles. I’m a huge fan of the house. I love white floral (tuberose especially) scents and this is one of the most beautiful white florals I have ever smelled. Lately, I’m such a fan of niche brands and I have made it my mission to discover all the niche brands around me.

My Experience with Diptyque Do Son Eau De Toilette Spray:

During my study with perfumery raw materials, I have had the opportunity to discover a lot of raw materials that are used in perfumery. Being the floral person that I am, Tuberose struck me and I think I am in love with this flower. I have an unexplainable attraction towards tuberose scents and can’t stop buying them. So far, I have Carnal flower and Do Son, two of the greatest tuberose masterpieces ever created. Hoping to get my addiction under control. Soon!

I usually always buy the Eau de Parfum. This time however, the Eau de Toilette was sufficient because the strength of the scent convinced me. I would like to mention that the Eau De Parfum and Eau De Toilette do not smell the same. They are both white floral, but I find the Eau De toilette to be fresher. The bottle is a slender, oval minimalistic bottle. Niche houses usually have elegant classy bottles that are not overly gaudy because of course, their perfumes are everything you need. I adore the simple packaging of Diptyque perfumes; it’s their identity.

Diptyque Do Son Eau De Toilette Spray

Do Son is fresh enough for the summer and rich enough for the winter. A perfecty balanced, year-long companion.
I am now going to attempt an olfactory descripton of the scent. On the initial spray, you smell powerful whiffs of white flower, which is the African Orange flower. Alongside the orange flower, slight powdery accents of Iris and Rose. As the fragrance settles, you can smell tuberose all over. This tuberose is somehow more creamy and milky than it usually is, which is why I think it has a bit of a coconut-y touch to it, so that is Aldehyde C18.

After a few hours, the fragrance turns sweeter and heavily musky yet sustaining the tuberose goodness. Benzoin and Vanilla contribute to the sweetness or balsamic facets and musk adds the musky note. I feel that Do Son has a slight animalic, synthetic accord to it, which I think is from the Rose. Turkish Rose often smells animalic. While I am not usually a fan of rosy scents, this subtle addition completes Do Son. It gives it an edge, adding a finishing touch.

Top notes: Orange Flower, Rose, Iris.
Heart notes: Tuberose, Aldehyde C18.
Base notes: Benzoin, Vanilla, Musk.

The bottle is beautiful, the longevity is great and the sillage is moderate to heavy, just the way I like it. For me, this is a signature scent. It is not something I would wear every day, but a special scent meant for special days. I choose not to wear it every day only because I’m worried I’ll finish it too soon. I already re-spray it about thrice a day. On the days that I wear Do Son, I get numerous compliments and people are always asking me what perfume I am wearing 🙂

Quick note about the perfumer: Fabrice Pellegrin, currently employed at Firmenich has made some beautiful fragrances. For house Diptyque, he made Do Son and also Florabelio, Volutes and Eau Duelle, each of which are unique. Interestingly, he is also the creator of Valentina Pink, which is the latest addition to the line Valentina by Valentino Perfumes.

Would I Recommend Diptyque Do Son Eau De Toilette Spray?
Yes, most definitely. However, I would like to add that every perfume smells different on different people. Each person has a unique scent on their skin even without spraying perfume. For me, a perfume describes its wearer. Perfumes that appeal to me may not appeal to you, as we all smell differently. My advice is to test perfumes before buying. Spray on your neck, chest and wrists. If you like how it smells on your skin, buy it.
