DIY Herbal Hair Wash Recipes to Try at Home

Hello everyone,

I am going crazy over healthy, thick and long hair these days and I am trying to get back my ‘once upon a time’ hair. We all have a story about the thick and long hair we had many years ago (usually in our childhood). Thanks to our moms for massaging and caring for our hair with some good hair oil. Dandruff, hairfall, dryness are all nightmares and with regular hair oiling I have been to deal with these issues now. This is the combination I use to massage my hair with: 1/4 cup of sesame oil, olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and then added 3 Vitamin E capsules.

Herbal Hair cleansers

While following a twice a week oiling routine for my hair, I never had the courage to wash it off with a chemical rich shampoo. I tried to use fresh hibiscus hair wash but I was too lazy to hold on to it.  I recently got to know about these 2 herbal hair wash recipes which I wish to share with you all today. Both the recipes can replace your shampoo and can be used as often as your shampoo.

1. Shikakai Hair Wash:

Ingredients:
• Besan-1 Tbsp
• Sandalwood powder-1 Tbsp
• Dried curry leaves powder- 2 Tbsp
• Shikakai powder- 2 Tbsp
• Fenugreek powder- 1 Tbsp

Steps:

• Collect fresh curry leaves and wash them thoroughly. Dry them in sunlight for 2 days until it reaches a crispy and crushable stage (drying them for 2 days helps it to stay well for a longer period).
• Grind your fenugreek seeds to form a fine powder grinder and sieve it so that the grains do not accumulate on your scalp/hair after the wash.
• Collect all the ingredients and combine them together. Store this powder in an airtight container and mix it with water for washing your hair. Sandalwood is well known for its cooling properties and besan has great cleansing properties with added hair conditioning benefits!

You can easily double the quantity and store it in bulk for future use but never allow water to get into the container and always use a dry spoon to get the powder out otherwise it may get deteriorated soon.

2. Hibiscus Hair Wash:

Ingredients:
• Hibiscus flowers-2/3 nos.
• Henna leaves
• Curry leaves
• Fresh amla- 2 nos.
• Fenugreek 2 tsp
• Yogurt 2 tsp

Steps:
• Get some henna leaves and curry leaves and clean them thoroughly. Collect hibiscus flowers and wash them properly.
• Roughly chop amla and de-seed it.
• Get all the ingredients in a grinder and give it a nice blend.
• Use this smooth paste on your head. This not only does the job of a shampoo but also helps your hair grow better.

Hope the month of June gave you many some treasonable memories. For me June was amazingly special because this is the month in which I got a green signal for my relationship from my parents and everything seems to be right on track after the terrible 5 years! And July is my birthday month and looking forward to see how great it’s going to be. 🙂

Hope you guys enjoyed reading the article and see you soon with another one. 😀

  1. Much needed Sana. I too never have the heart to use chemical laden shampoos after oiling my hair. I will try the hibiscus one.
