As promised in my earlier post, I am back with a DIY post of a homemade exfoliating lip scrub for cracked and pigmented lips. This is my first DIY post and I am pretty much excited. Making a homemade scrub, clicking pictures, arranging all the ingredients, using my own homemade natural products was so much fun. So, let’s quickly look into how simple and useful a homemade lip scrub recipe could be.
You need:
⦁ Olive oil – 1 tsp
⦁ Honey – 2 tsp
⦁ Sugar – 1 tbsp
⦁ Beetroot juice – 1 tsp
⦁ Lemon juice – 1 tsp
⦁ Drops of vanilla essence
Procedure:
Step 1:
Microwave honey for 30 seconds or until the honey turns into a runny liquid. You can also heat it on a gas stove for just a few seconds so that this process makes it easy to mix in sugar.
Step 2:
Transfer two teaspoons of honey into an empty mixing bowl of your choice.
Step 3:
Add one teaspoon of olive oil.
Step 4:
Follow up with one teaspoon of lemon juice with pulp.
Step 5:
Further, add one teaspoon of beetroot juice for a bright vibrant maroon color. You can use any other edible color of your choice. I chose beetroot for this vegetable is totally natural and it gives you that super bright looking maroon color, which I absolutely love.
Step 6:
Lastly, add a few drops of vanilla essence for a sweet and yummy vanilla flavor. This is optional. If you wish, you can skip this.
Step 7:
Give all the ingredients a quick stir with the help of a spoon.
Step 8:
The final step is to store this lip scrub in a container with a lid of your choice, depending on the quantity you make.
Swatch:
Directions:
Take a small amount of scrub and gently rub it on your lips with the help of fingertips or a soft-bristled toothbrush for just two minutes. Rinse with water and pat dry with a soft towel. Apply a lip balm to retain the moisture for a longer period of time. It’s better you exfoliate your lips once or twice a week and not more, because too much of scrubbing can harm your lips.
Benefits:
I’ve made this a little liquidy as my lips turn out too dry soon. So I wanted my lips to absorb more olive oil. There is no hard and fast rule with the proportion of the ingredients. You can adjust the ratio according to your lip type. Honey and olive oil will fix the cracked lips whereas lemon and beetroot juice will lessen the pigmentation of your lips. If you have dead skin flakes falling off from your lips, you can add in more sugar. If your lips are sore or chapped, you can add a little extra honey to the mixture.
So, that’s it! Give this a go and let me know which is that one natural ingredient that you would add or replace in your scrub.
