DIY – Skincare and Haircare Tips for a Healthy and Gorgeous Holi

Wish you all a very happy and safe Holi in advance. Holi is the most popular and fun festival in India. The festival of Holi brings happiness and it adds color to our life. If you are a wild Holi player, then you should take some extra care of your skin. Basically, the colors used in Holi cause a lot of allergies, irritations and breakouts. They also make skin dry and rough. The chemicals present in colors damage our skin and hair. It is the big reason of hair fall. But we can’t stop playing Holi because of this, so if we follow some easy tips before and after the festival, it will help to avoid such damage and will also keep skin healthy.

1. DIY massage oil for sensitive skin

This oil is great for sensitive, acne prone skin. It really keeps skin pimple free. Just apply it liberally before playing Holi.
DIY: Take your coconut oil and add 1 tablespoon of neem oil to that. Now add few drops of tea tree oil to that. Mix this oil nicely and apply this all over your body and face.
Tips: Don’t forget to apply oil behind your ears, on your back and neck and also the gap between your fingers. These are places where colors stick easily.

2. DIY moisturizing and hydrating mask

Color of the holi makes skin extremely dry and it absorbs all the natural oil from skin. So after playing holi, skin looks rough and damaged. To avoid such problems, apply this deep hydrating face and body mask before playing Holi and also after Holi.
DIY: Add 3 tbsp of yogurt to 1 tbsp of honey. Now add almond oil and ½ spoon of cinnamon powder. Combine all of them and apply this all over your face and body nicely. Leave it for 20 min and the rinse with warm water. Use this pack before and after playing Holi.

3. Care for your cracked feet and dry hands

We often forget to take care of feet and hand while playing Holi feet. Cracked feet get most damaged as the color gets into cracks. Apply this homemade scrub at least two days before playing Holi.
DIY: Take 2 tbsp of brown sugar and add olive oil. Now add ½ spoon of turmeric and 2-3 drops of lemon juice. Combine all the ingredients nicely. Apply this to your feet and keep it for 15-20 minutes; then scrub your feet for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Tips: File/clip your nails before playing holi. It helps to avoid breakage and you don’t hurt your friends also. Don’t forget to apply your nail polish to avoid stained nails. If you have long nails, then apply a clear nail paint on the inner section of your nails.

4. Body scrub to remove stubborn Holi colors

Just be patient about removing colors. Be gentle on your skin and don’t rub your skin with loofah.
DIY: To make this body scrub, take fine dust of sugar. Add coconut oil and yogurt to that. Now add ½ spoon of turmeric and 1 tbsp tomato juice to that mixture. Exfoliate your body nicely with this mixture for 10 minutes and then rinse normally.
For face, take some coffee and add glycerin or yogurt (depending on your skin type) to that. Now add lemon juice and mix all the ingredients nicely. Scrub your face with this.

5. Hydrating hair mask

The chemicals present in the color are the biggest caused of hair fall. So before playing Holi, apply deep nourishing hair oil and then nicely detangle all of your hair. Apply this hydrating hair mask after playing holi.
DIY: Take 2 tbsp of yogurt and 1 tbsp of honey. Add 1 tbsp aloe vera gel to the mixture. Mix all the ingredients nicely and apply all over your hair.
Tips: We all use hair oil before playing Holi, but one thing that you can also apply is some Aloe Vera gel. Apply this gel on your hair especially on the tips of your hair. It protects hair from brakeage and keeps hair moisturized. Cover your hair as much as possible and try to avoid open hair style.

An important tip: Avoid skin treatment before Holi

Skin treatments like waxing, threading, facial, etc make skin very sensitive. So if you apply color on your face, it immediately reacts badly. It also burns your face. Only apply homemade moisturizing pack for a glowing and healthy smooth skin. Also if you have any cuts and burns, then cover them up nicely. Otherwise, they may get aggravated.
