Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo Review

Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo Review

Dove has recently revamped its entire hair care range and all the products are now prefixed with ‘Dove Damage Therapy’.  Dove claims that the reason behind all hair problems is damage and that this is what needs to be tackled.  They also claim to be the most recommended shampoo by Indian Women. The product reviewed here is the Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo.

Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo Review

Name of the Product:  Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo.

Cost:  Rs. 69.00 for 100 ml (Dove soap bar free with the pack I bought).

Shelf Life:  2 years.

Product Claim:

• Eliminates dandruff without drying your hair.
• Weightless formula.
• Patented micromoisture serum and ZPTO.
• Acts on origin of dandruff from first wash.
• Helps restore hair surface leaving hair soft and smooth.
• Advanced care and repair for beautiful hair.

Review:

This shampoo comes in a white bottle with a flip cap.  The product claim is displayed both on the front and back.  The Dove logo is embedded on the top of the lid.

Second

Since this is part of the new range, the upper left corner of the bottle shows its counterpart in the old range under ‘replaces’.  The cap is a standard flip type and easy to use.  The flow of the shampoo is quite smooth.

Third

Directions to use are the usual – apply to wet hair, lather, rinse and repeat.  They recommend using it daily.

The product has a mild fragrance and lathers well enough. I didn’t require too much product for my shoulder length hair. The consistency is thick and not runny.

Fourth

The good part of this shampoo is that it washes out oil completely.  Here’s the bad part – this product makes my hair slightly coarse, even though I use conditioner. That is the main problem with most anti-dandruff shampoos, but I expected Dove to be different.  Alas, the same problem here as well.  The day I wash, the dandruff seems to have subsided a little and the itching nearly gone, but the next day, its back!  I have a minor dandruff problem and if this is the case, I don’t think it would be of much help to people with severe dandruff.

Ingredients:

Water, Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Dimethyconol and Tea Dodecylbenzene Sulphonate, Zinc Pyrithione, Dimethicone and Laureth-4 and Laureth-23 and Poloxamer-407, Perfume, Carboner, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Guar Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Chloride, Zinc Sulphate, Hellianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lysine Hydrochloride, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylisothiazolinone.

This product claims to contain ZPTO, i.e. Zinc Pyrithione.  Apparently, this compound could cause allergic reactions, headaches, nausea, fatigue, nervousness and lack of concentration. (Source: www.copperwiki.org).

Pros of Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo:

1. Reasonably priced.
2. Easily available everywhere.
3. Easy-to-use pack.
4. Small quantity is sufficient.
5. Washes out oil completely.
6. Mild Fragrance.
7. Does not contain parabens.

Cons of Dove Damage Therapy Dandruff Care Shampoo:

1. Makes hair coarser, even with conditioner.
2. Dandruff problem does not disappear completely.
3. Might be ineffective on severe dandruff.

Verdict:

The bane with all dandruff shampoos – dry, coarse hair!! Though the product claims are full of promises for smooth, nourished hair without drying, it doesn’t seem to be completely true. My hair became dry and easily tangled and as to the main function of the shampoo – the dandruff is not as easy to get rid of as they claim. All in all, a disappointing product from Dove, especially since all their ads claim soft, beautiful hair as their main selling point.

Would I Buy This Again?

I think not.

Rating:

2.5/5.
