Dove Elixir Nourished Shine Review

Dove Elixir Nourished Shine

Hey lovelies!!

Every one of us has heard about Argan oil and its miracles for hair. I was in constant search for Argan oil but well; it is not easily available in India. I had heard about its miracle like effects on frizzy hair and strengthening the hair.
So around a few months back, there was this really catchy advertisement on the TV with “nani teri morni ko…” and this was it! I knew I had to get it when I saw the words Argan oil on the elixir 😛
Dove being a company of high repute, I needn’t give it a second thought. I straight away placed an order and got it the next day 🙂
Dove Elixir Nourished Shine
I got the nourished shine variety which has hibiscus oil and Argan oil in it.

Description:
We have heard since our childhood that oiling hair is the best remedy to take care of all the possible hair damages. From our grandmother to our mother, everyone preached this practise, we never took it seriously. However, there is one brand, Dove, that took it sincerely and crafted this hair oil. Made for both men and women, this nourishing hair oil will do its best to protect your hair and make it beautiful. Organic in nature, this Dove Elixir Oil takes care of hair damage and keeps your hair lively. With active natural ingredients such as argan oil and hibiscus, this hair oil is sure to do some magic to your tresses in just 30 minutes unlike the conventional overnight oiling.

My experience with Dove Elixir Nourished Shine:

The bottle looks very classy and pretty. It has these dried petals if hibiscus floating freely in the oil, makes you want to shake it again and again 😀 It has a pump dispenser. Now this was new, a pump dispenser for what was thought to be a kind of oil. If you have used the matrix opti-care serum, the pump mechanism is exactly like that. I feel this is a good concept for oil bottles. Not to mention the transparent glass bottle.
It smells like a floral serum. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind when I sniff this. It isn’t a long lasting smell but you enjoy it while you are putting it into your hair. The consistency of the oil is really lightweight and non sticky. I like to take around 4-5 pumps and work into my hair. I concentrate it on the ends of my hair, which need all the healing, and treatment as it claims.
It absorbs into the hair somewhat and doesn’t make your hair look really greasy so that’s a thumbs up for this oil.
Now I don’t really see it working on its claims of being better than regular oils. I mean it does work as a normal oil and washes off pretty easily unlike the regular oils, but I don’t really see any drastic change. My hair feels the same as it would, if I had used any regular oil.

So my mother tried this one fine day and what she did basically was, she put it along the ends of her hair like a leave in serum. She has really dry and brittle ends, and this literally took away the frizz and dryness. After a few hours it looked as if she hadn’t put anything at all and the hair looked so much better. Since then, I like to use a little bit of it in the ends of my hair like a leave in treatment when my hair is extra dry. Though I am disappointed, it did not live up to its claim of providing nourished shine.
So in all, I don’t think you need this if you’re looking for a regular champi oil. I mean there are better inexpensive options available in the market. But if you have dry hair, you may use this as a leave in treatment.

Dove Elixir Nourished Shine (2)
This may be good for ladies with oily hair as they would want to avoid all the greasiness which the regular oils impart. Moms would want to use this on their kids hair as they tend to run away from oiling their hair because of the chip chip 😀

PS. I love the little detailing near the bottom which says “Love your hair” 🙂

Pros Dove Elixir Nourished Shine:

1. Pretty packaging with flower petals.
2. Pump dispenser.
3. Smells Great.
4. Contains goodness of hibiscus oil and Argan oil.
5. Non sticky light formula.
6. Good for oily hair beauties and children.
7. Can be used as a leave in treatment for dry hair types.
8. Inexpensive.
9. Easily available.

Cons of Dove Elixir Nourished Shine:

1. They could have mentioned the contents in detail.
2. Bottle is not travel friendly as it may leak.

Do I recommend Dove Elixir Nourished Shine?
If you have oily hair or you want a good leave in treatment for dry hair.

Will I repurchase Dove Elixir Nourished Shine?
Probably, but would like to try the other varieties in the same range 🙂

  1. heyyy nice review *hifive* dove products have never worked that well for me so this one would be a skip i guess *headbang*

  2. I have the same variant.. but it never provides the nourishment like Coconut or Olive oil gives.. i just use it like serum.. just for fragarance and the bottle is cute 🙂

  3. Contains mineral oil.. *nababana* this is similar to the parachute one that I reviewed… I guess all these companies are putting mineral oil mainly and then other oils for namesake! Skip for me *announce*

  4. hey .. *thankyou* thanks for the lovely review .. i have been eyeing this one since a while, but never got around to buying it.. *woot* i loved the floating flower petails..but guess this product dsnt work as well as it looks *nonono*

    1. I was lured by the Argan oil and the cute bottle. The floating petals and the smell are the ones which have kept me from not using this 😀 😀
It just doesn’t live upto its champi claims *cry*

  5. Finally, I’m there… Astha, I have the lavender and olive oil one, I love it..!! *pigtail* *pigtail* *pigtail*

    1. exactly! Instead of working so much on the packaging, they could have thought of making this a bit more natural *specs*

  6. I have the dryness care one..it has mineral oil as well. *spank*
I like to use it as a serum. *pigtail*

  7. I wanted to buy this particular variant when it was first launched but changed my mind when I saw mineral oil as one of the main ingredients.

  8. I agree, dove products do give me a lot of hair fall. *hunterwali* especially their hair conditioner.. and same thing happened when i used the fructis hair oil.

  9. Cons for me:
    Caused hairfall.
    Increased dandruff
The bits of hibiscus got into the nostril and pump stopped working after 3-4 uses. now i open the bottle and pour it directly.
Did not make my hair smooth or shiny. i already feel taht my hair is getting rough and brittle after using this.
    Pros:
Fragrance is good. But since it is artificial not really a pro for me.
