Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer Review

Hello friends!

Hope all of you are doing good and eagerly waiting for the festive season. I am also waiting for the month of October as it is going to be so happening with all Indian and western events like Navratri, Karwachauth, Halloween and many more. Wow! Well, the festive season is not all about dressing up in colorful dresses, but is also about looking flawless, with or without makeup. Even a small bump on the cheek can give us nightmares and might steal the charm. Hence, I am taking extra care of my skin these days to avoid those unexpected situations. 😀 A good skincare regimen is not only about eating or drinking right, but also about putting right makeup on skin. Special thanks to IMBB for letting me know so many facts about the right skincare and makeup.

My Experience with Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer:

Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer Review8

The primer comes in an opaque, grey colored tube packaging; nothing fancy. I dislike its strong, astringent-like smell which might be too sensitive for people. Overall, it’s quite user friendly & travel friendly. I am in two minds with this primer even though I have been habitual of using it for over a year now. The issue is that whenever I wear this primer in summers, my skin become so shiny after few hours, and in winters I feel it sits on top of my dry, uneven skin. I know this is real tricky, but let’s not blame this primer alone as my skin is a unique gift from God, which never cooperates with me. 😛

Anyway, it seems to be a silicon based, beige color primer with thick paste type of consistency that can be tricky when applied with fingertips. Hence a sponge or a face brush helps to tackle this issue I learned eventually. Moreover, it seems like a dry, thick primer which seems almost negligible on my skin while applying. Yet it is noticeable on my skin through its translucent beige color payoff which evens out my skin tone. There are times when it simply settles on my minor dry patches and I feel like it accentuates them even more. Hence a well scrubbing and hydrating routine prior to using this is much needed.

I mean, it is not drying on my skin, but it is not like a hydrating primer either which can forgive even minute dryness or flakes on our skin. In fact it might be tricky. However, I am impressed by its nearly sheer to medium coverage which works almost like any BB cream or tinted moisturizer. It blurs out my large pores really well, to an extent that they are hardly noticeable, which is impressive. It also fills in the fine lines without making them prominent even under makeup or with powder touch up. Plus, I always make sure that my skin is well scrubbed and moisturized prior and it never disappoints me.

I see that it does increase the longevity of my face makeup at times, but it is also not completely effective for oil control, like usual primers. The maximum I could see the matte effect with foundation on my skin was 8 hours while using it alone. Over a moisturizer (topped with a powder) it gives me 5-6 hours of wear time with shine free skin, that too only on cool days, not always. Californian dry summers, plus my weird skin type are a unique combination and this primer is no such exception as I feel oily face after 4-5 hours of wear time. Using it beneath oil free makeup does make a difference for decent hours. This is quite relieving that it does not aggravate or accentuate our oily skin concerns other than being ineffective for dry skin.

In any case, it is not ideal for dry skinned beauties considering my experiences; I find it good enough for normal, combination and oily skin type beauties with or without problematic skin. Personally, I might get it again as summers are almost gone and I will need this blurring, smoothing primer for my skin type. But its price is again a concern when I cannot use it on its own (have to club it with another hydrating, mattifying primer).

Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer Review

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer:

• A lightweight primer infused with goodness of tea tree oil, flaxseed etc and formulated without parabens, sulfates & phthalates
• It is a thick silicon based primer that blends easily
• It does impart a luminous beige glow to skin, apart from blurring large pores, filling in fine lines and refining skin texture
• Even when used alone, it does not look like a ghastly cast
• It does not aggravate or accentuate my oily, acne prone skin
• It provides even textured, smooth skin as per its claim to achieve flawless finish, with or without makeup
• It is suitable for every skin type, except dry, parched skin type
• Quite user friendly & travel friendly

Cons of Dr Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer:

• It is not completely sweat and humidity resistant, as per its claims
• My skin feels slightly oily after 4-5 hours of wear time in summers, not always though
• It does not forgive even minute, dry, flaky patches on our skin
• It does contain chemicals which might bother sensitive skin
• Its smell is horrible for me

I hope you know my choice. I might skip it for summers while for spring and fall season, it is my first choice provided I club it with other skincare measures. I believe if you don’t have any issues with shine or oiliness, you might love this primer.
