Dr Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Original Formula Review

Hello beautiful people,

Hope all of you are enjoying Sawan month! We are yet to experience rain here but basking in happiness already. We usually correlate sawan month to our mythological belief. It is believed that sawan month is the best period to seek Lord Shiva’s blessing and many people in North India offer “Parthiv pooja” and “Shivaabhishekam” in this auspicious month; while many people quit non-vegetarian diet along with garlic & onion like my family. However, there is a scientific point of view behind avoiding food items like garlic, onion, potatoes etc during rainy season considering they are all grown beneath soil. It is because soil is most favorable place for biological microbial activity while the rainy season simply enhances their activity further which may lead to infection in many cases. Hence whether we consider our mythological belief or scientific approach it is good to stay away from underground vegetables during this month. It’s interesting to notice that our ancestral beliefs and scientific logic always run parallel, amazing huh!

What it is: A daily, anti-aging facial peel on presoaked cotton towelettes, plus bonus applications of the extra strength version.

What it is formulated to do:
These patented two-step treatment pads deliver visible anti-aging results without recovery time. They work to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pore size, while creating a more even skin-tone and brightening the complexion. Recommended for sensitive skin, the pads also work to calm redness and irritation and clear imperfections resulting in a healthy, glowing complexion.

My Experience with Dr Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Original Formula:

Well the cotton towelette peels are nicely wrapped in sealed wrapper thereby safely in housed in a card board packaging. I find it pretty convenient for travelling as I just need to keep the sealed packet in wallet or smallest clutch with no concerns of carrying whole packaging everywhere. It does have strong chemical smell but nothing to worry about. As of now these alpha beta peels are available in 2 variants; the other is known as Extra strength peel formula. I am yet to find out which is the best of these two!

Both the cotton peels are square, standard size and work well for my oval-round face and neck region without drying too fast. I start as per direction from step 1 which is to cleanse our skin. After waiting a minute or two, I follow up with next step which mildly exfoliates and refines my skin texture. So far I didn’t find them irritating or burning on my skin which was one of my biggest concern while using them.

I have tried AHA; especially glycolic acid, lactic acid and mild Salicylic acid peels before, which often made my skin tingling and sensitive red but thankfully this original formula is way too mild to cause any burning or tingling sensation. There is no redness or bumpy side effects on my skin. I started with this peel last year and found them good for temporary results, though I still rely on proper facial or mild exfoliation when I am in comfort zone of my home.

I usually prefer them during travelling when I have no time and access to pamper my skin. I just need to gently massage step 1 peel on my clean dry skin to mildly exfoliate dry dead skin and I can see slight redness and mild chemical itching on my skin for first few seconds (it usually subsides as we get regular with the peels by 3rd or 4th day of consecutive usage) but it is for good as it explains the acids & ingredients are effective. After waiting for 2-4 minutes I massage step 2 peel on my skin which refines my pores and skin texture and then I can see new glowing skin; though initially all I could notice was subtle redness and exfoliated skin. However with regular usage I did see positive results like smooth skin behind red skin with lightened scars and blemishes.

Yes gals, it did help me fighting against zits and their remnants, thereby improving my oily skin texture. But it is not a permanent solution as the moment I skip it from my skincare routine my skin comes back to original state. I also fear not to depend much on these peels, as we do not need to exfoliate our skin everyday. There are chances that my skin may change with time and regular usage, which in turn might aggravate any other issues like unusual secretion from sebum gland or increased sensitivity to sun light. Hence I limit its usage to once a week now and mostly during my travel plans as it simplify my skincare regime that way.

Moreover, it is always better to alternate these peels with other homemade or mild herbal regimens. Now the tricky part is while they do give me clean & clear skin but I do suffer from white/black heads quite often and these peels are ineffective to treat those issues. No matter how many times I use them they only give topical relief and do not treat my zits from within pores; as what AHA or BHA are supposed to do. And once we are totally into AHA BHA peels, our skin tends to react more weird in sunlight hence I need an alternative to these short term measures.

Over all I find them pretty good for occasional use provided you don’t suffer from clogged pores as this peel cannot help with clogged pores completely. I am yet to seek any anti-ageing benefit from these peels and I might give them a pass for a while as my primary concern is to get rid of clogged pores right now.

Pros:

• A pre-soaked mild cotton towelettes infused with goodness of AHA, BHA and other skin friendly ingredients.
• They are way mild on my oily-sensitive acne prone skin there by acting tough on zits topically.
• They do perform well as per their claim up to some extent.
• They mildly exfoliate our topical skin thereby refining skin texture up to good extent.
• I never suffer any severe burning or irritation while using them regularly.
• They didn’t aggravate my oily skin issues or cause sensitivity to sunlight so far.
• They do help in treating topical zits and scars quite well other than making pores shrink a bit not completely though.
• I do feel soft and clear skin post usage.
• Quite user friendly and travel friendly packaging and product as well.

9

Cons:

• It does not help with clogged pores effectively.
• My blackheads/whiteheads issues are not resolved even after regular usage.
• My skin comes back to original state the moment I skip it from my skincare routine.
• It might make our skin sensitive to sunlight upon regular and more frequent usage I fear.
• I am yet to notice any anti-ageing benefit from these peels.
• They do seem pricey as well.

To be honest I am more comfortable to use AHA/BHA gel or liquid on my skin daily than to use a pre-soaked towelette which only works for decent hours plus pricey. Moreover, I read that BHA (on daily basis) help with clogged pores making all skin related concerns disappear with time which is my main concern currently. Hence I might keep these peels on hold. I would definitely recommend them to oily, combination beauties with problem free skin; especially if you are looking for an instant hustle free mild exfoliating peel formula then this is what make your life easier.
