Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream Review

Hello everyone,

As I have mentioned in some of my earlier reviews, Drunk Elephant is probably my most favorite skincare brand as a whole, till date. Their products have done wonders to improve my skin. Today’s review will be on the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, which is also the Allure “Best in Beauty” 2016 winner.

My Experience with Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream:

Packaging:  One of the setbacks with such packaging is that if such products come housed in a tub, the ingredients can lose potency with contact to air and light. This was the case with the old packaging of this product (which I unfortunately have), but thankfully, now Drunk Elephant has revamped this product in a new air-tight, sealed container with a push top to dispense the product.

Texture and Feel on skin:  As the name suggests, this moisturizer has a thick, whipped consistency. It is very rich and luxurious. You don’t need a whole lot to cover your face as it spreads so easily and melts into the skin. Once applied, it does not feel too heavy on the skin, but it does take a while for it to get absorbed into the skin. It leaves a natural, glowy, dewy finish to the skin. I don’t find this product to be ideal to use under makeup and prefer using this as my night time moisturizer.

Performance:  I have normal to dry skin, which in winters, can lean towards very dry with flaking type. I start preparing and revamping my skincare right before the onset of winter, which is when I started incorporating this product into my daily routine.
This product has literally been a life-saver for my skin. This might be the first winter season in years that I did not suffer from dry and flaky skin and the whole credit goes to this very product.

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream tub

I use this cream every night, religiously layered over my serums and AHAs (I rotate between Sunday Riley Good Genes and Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum) and top this off with a dab of facial oil (I love Sunday Riley Luna Oil) to finish. Come morning, I wake up with fresh and glowing skin with not a hint of dryness in sight, even during the harshest cold and driest air indoor due to heater.

It also never clogged my pores. It also claims to restore skin elasticity, but since I am in my mid-late 20s, I can’t comment on that just yet, but I would say my skin does feel firm and healthy overall.

Fragrance:  This product is said to be fragrance-free, but I detect a mild scent, possibly due to ingredients themselves, but it fades quickly.

I have been using this product over 2 months now and almost halfway through, so by my estimate, a tub should last you 3-4 months, if like me, you intend to use it liberally.

Overall, I simply love this product. My skin has never looked this good come winter season as it has been this year, thanks to this cream. While I would not recommend this product to oily skin due to its thick, ultra-rich texture, but if you have extra dry skin, like mine, grab this up. Also, I would not consider this an ideal summer/day time moisturizer and for that, I prefer something less heavy (for that, I would recommend Drunk Elephant B hydra intensive hydration gel). I would absolutely recommend this.

Pros of Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream:

  • New revamped packaging comes with an air-tight jar.
  • Rich, creamy whipped texture feels absolutely luxurious.
  • Does not clog pores.
  • Deeply moisturizing and gets rid of dryness and flaky spots with just a few uses.
  • Keeps skin in best shape, healthy and radiant, with regular use.
  • Fragrance free-, but does have a mild scent to it, which should not offend sensitive noses.
  • Improves skin texture.
  • Best winter time/nighttime moisturizer for dry skin or those living in places which has harsh dry winters.
  • Makes skin glow and healthy.

Cons of Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream:

  • Can take a while to absorb into the skin.
  • Not ideal to use under makeup unless you have very dry skin.
  • May feel a little too rich and heavy for oily skin.
