By now, you must be aware of my love affair with the skin care brand “Drunk Elephant” (Lala Retro Whipped Cream, TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Cream, Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel, etc), and if I were asked to only fill my my entire skincare routine with one single brand, this would be it! But let’s be honest, being the IMBB addict that I am, I just can’t help trying out new stuff. Read on to know more about the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer physical Defense SPF 30.

Umbra™ is a physical formulation loaded with antioxidants that aid in the prevention of oxidative cell damage and photoaging. Infused with Sunflower Shoot Extract, Astaxanthin, Raspberry Seed Oil and Marula Oil, Umbra will leave your skin healthy and protected — without any residue or greasiness. Ideal for all skin tones. This physical block is formulated without any chemical sunscreens, which have been known to cause irritation and are not as effective as the natural alternative, Zinc Oxide. My Experience with Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30:
Packaging: This sunscreen comes in a squeeze tube, simple yet practical.
Texture/Consistency: This sunscreen has a thin consistency but it is not watery. It is easy to spread on to skin but it does leave a heavy white cast initially and you do need to to massage it and blend it well into the skin.
Feel on skin: This sunscreen is very nourishing to the point that you do not need a moisturizer to go with it. This sunscreen can feel a bit heavy. It does not absorb quickly or sinks in completely even on my normal-dry skin and leaves a dewy finish. But that issue is easy to deal with by setting it with powder on top every time after using. I do not find it feeling heavy on my skin if I apply just a tiny amount but that does seem counter productive as sunscreens are supposed to be applied generously to shield the skin against the sun’s harmful rays.
This quality might make this sunscreen unsuitable for those with very oily skin especially if you were just looking for a sunscreen to wear on its own without pairing it with powder.
This is a purely physical sunblock with 20% zinc oxide, which is great, because many people can be sensitive to chemical sunscreens, but it also makes this product unsuitable to wear for under makeup if you are going to flash photography.
I have never had a issue of getting a tan on my skin even after spending hours in the hot Mumbai sun. It also never irritated my skin especially since I do chemical exfoliation with AHAs on a nightly basis and that can make skin susceptible to burns from the sun.
Fragrance: This product is fragrance free, like almost all of DE skincare line, but it does have a faint medicinal herbal scent, which is not bothersome.
Pros of Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30:
- Very nourishing.
- Does not clog pores.
- SPF 30.
- Never caused my skin to burn or tan even in hot Mumbai sun.
- Fragrance free.
Cons of Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30:
- Oily skin may find it too heavy for their skin type.
- Does not absorb completely into the skin and needs to be set with powder to take away the “wet” feeling on the skin.

We all know how important it is to incorporate wearing sunscreen regularly and this is an excellent option to try. I am very pleased with this product and will recommend it.

Im so glad that i didn’t pick this up! With a heavy texture, this wouldn’t have worked for me at all.
