Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer Review

Product Purchased by IMBB

This post is the review of a product that I bought thanks to the “Sponsored Product Scheme” of IMBB…thank you guys so much!!! I have never used high-end blow dryers before. In the past, I have used the ones from brands such as Revlon and Conair. Their performance is average, not extraordinary, and not enough to push me to repurchase them. Since I had the opportunity to purchase a high-end flat iron thanks to IMBB (Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron), I thought I should also add a high-end blow dryer to my stash. The most important feature I seek in heating tool is that it should not “fry” my hair or add a lot of static and frizz to them. Hence, I decided to invest in a better alternative with an advanced and gentler technology.

Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer

Product Description:
An ultimate travel-dryer, tested to deliver 100 percent of the power and performance of most professional full-size dryers, for the perfect Drybar blowout on-the-go.

What it does:
Baby Buttercup Travel Blow-Dryer features ionic technology, which increases shine, reduces frizz, and dramatically decreases dry time. The powerful motor is designed with two temperature/heat settings for custom blowouts, while a cool shot button locks in styles. It weighs less than a pound, easily folds into a compact format to fit into any suitcase, and includes a cute ‘I’m Full of Hot Air!’ travel bag to protect against scuffs and scrapes.

$135

My Experience with Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer:

This blow dryer comes in a hard cardboard packaging – it does justice to the price of the product (looks expensive, practical and can be stored in a closet or carried for travelling). It is made up of hard plastic (sturdy and well made). Yellow color of the product gives it a colorful, captivating appeal. Since it is marketed as a travel version of the actual, full-sized product, it has a folding handle which gives it a compact appearance.

It has a powerful motor which can perform at two temperature settings. The highest temperature it can reach is high enough to dry hair efficiently but not fry them. It has a “cool shot” button which helps lock hairstyles in place. I never use heat tools on dripping wet hair. Before drying my hair with a hair dryer, I let it dry to about 80% naturally and then use the dryer to completely dry them. If in rush, I use this hair dryer with a broad, boar bristle brush to dry my hair quickly, tame them and straighten them as best as I can. It serves well as a substitute for flat iron.

When I have the luxury of time, I use this product to make elaborate hairdos. I use different diameters – round brush to get loose, soft curls or small, tight curls. I do not obtain salon-like results but that is because of lack skill on my part and not because of this blow dryer’s inefficiency. Compared to hair dryers from other brands, this one from Drybar dries hair faster (almost cuts the drying time to half), causes less static and frizz. It is an expensive product, but after using it in different manners, I have found that it is worth the money and one can dig into their pockets to buy it.

Overall, it is a good product and does what it claims, I enjoyed using it more drugstore brands because Drybar hair dryer is gentler on my hair and does not cause frizz. It has less damaging effect on hair, especially when paired with a good heat protectant. No matter the price, I do recommend using a good heat protectant with any brand’s heating tools.

Pros of Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer:

  • A good blow dryer with less damaging effect on hair, but I still recommend a good heat protectant, especially to those who use heating tools on their hair on a regular basis.
  • Powerful motor which can perform at two temperature settings. This hair dryer also has a cool shot button.
  • It is available in stores like Ulta and Sephora and also online.
  • Reduces hair drying time to half, prevents frizz and does not seem to have any damaging effect on hair.
  • Even though it is expensive, it’s worth the money.
  • It is quieter than other hair dryers that I have used in the past.

Cons of Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer:

  • Expensive, can be a major letdown for some of us.
  • Not available in drugstore and must be bought online or from stores like Ulta and Sephora.
  • The temperature of the two settings has not been disclosed.

I thank IMBB again for giving me the opportunity to buy this product and review it. I enjoyed using this product and do recommend it to others as well.
