Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo Review

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo Review

Hey gals,

Hope all of you are enjoying the monsoons with sizzling hot appetizers and tea/coffee sips.  We are still on our way to enjoy rain dance as we see no signs of rain here 🙁 It’s steaming hot outside with low humid weather which is taking a toll on the skin, hair and health. I usually prefer swimming to beat heat waves and it also gives me a toned figure 😛 I hate washing my medium/long hair every third day.  I heard a lot about dry shampoos and finally bought this Detox Dry Bar Shampoo out of curiosity.  I must say it did help me in saving a lot of time and energy and also in refreshing and vitalizing my hair for a short time period though my hubby is more impressed with the dry shampoo. I feel my medium length hair is way too long to get defined results from root to tip.  Anyway, let’s start with the review and please read on further to know more about Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo.

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo

Price:

$12 for 1.4 Oz (40 g) and $20 for 3.5 oz, exclusive of shipping and tax.

Packaging:

This powdery spray version of dry shampoo comes in a metallic opaque and sleek bottle with pump dispenser opening and safety cap. At first sight, it seems quite user friendly and travel friendly, though it is a highly scented shampoo which would make you feel nauseous for a while, so be prepared! I bought its smallest 1.4 oz version, which lasted me for 3 uses on my medium length hair and then for 2 uses on my hubby’s short hair.

My Experience with Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo:

I have been using it for a month or so and pretty much impressed with it though I won’t take it as a replacement for my usual shampoo. However, it is certainly a life savior when you are in a hurry.  For messy moms like me, it can be a permanent product in the vanity kit for those emergency situations when we are running short of “me time” for party or hang outs!

It’s pretty easy to use, I just need to spray it on my scalp 3-4 inches away and then gently blend it with fingers followed by combingor blow drying and I am all set, tada! I usually avoid blow drying and follow with combing which brings the desired volume and bounce on my hair.  I observed that it leaves a heavily-scented peachy brown powdery residue on my scalp post usage, which needs to be blended with fingers, combing also helps to get rid of the residue.  However, the strong fragrance refuses to fade away even after several hours which certainly gives a refreshing feel, but it feels quite nauseating after a few hours as it lingers on and on through the day.  However, I love the way it makes my oily sticky scalp all clear minutes after usage. I run fingers all over hair and it feels really good though I feel that it does not reach to the tips of my hair and I need to blow dry them in order to make them crisp and bouncy from root to tip. I feel for short hair, it will work like a charm.  My hubby loves using it once a week and it works great on his color-treated hair. The effect is well visible on the scalp and shorter hair tips, you know what I mean?

Some positive qualities of using this spray include – wavy bouncy hair for 1-2 days, can go without shampooing for 3-4 days, refreshing crisp scent which certainly gives that cleansed feel.  My hair looks and feels silky and soft post usage.  Scalp feels crisp clear with no trace of oil/dirt and grime.  It does not effect my hubby’s color-treated hair, in fact, this spray makes them appear healthier and bouncy. It does not aggravate hair fall.  Now, the twist is that it gives me itchy scalp the next day.  Yes gals, the more I wait to shampoo wash my hair (post usage of this spray), the more itchy my scalp feels.  I feel I need to shampoo wash my hair the next day or on the second day of using this product or it might lead to premature hair fall because of all the scratching I do 😛 Moreover, I am using phytoparis oil which is more like a treatment for hair thinning and I fear this dry shampoo might alter its good effects.  Hence, I avoid using it at times when I am oiling my hair.  Apart from that, I am pretty comfortable using it for emergencies.  I will recommend it to every gal with oily or problem-free hair type, it is quite gentle though heavily scented, but it is a personal choice, isn’t it? Just avoid using it if you are already following anti-dandruff treatment or other hairs treatment you know what I mean?

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo:

  • A pretty effective and mild dry shampoo.
  • It does not leave any residue behind other than scented peachy-brown powder.
  • Quite easy to work with, you need to spray it on the scalp from 3-4 inches away and then blend gently with fingers and comb or blow dry.
  • Brings out wavy bouncy effect within minutes and it stay for 8+ hours, in fact the bouncy wavy effect lasts for 24-48 hours sometimes.
  • Scalp feels crispy clear and fresh minutes after using this spray with no trace of oil, dirt, and grime.
  • Gives a fresh, cleansed and odor-free hair for 24-48 hours.
  • It’s good enough to be used on color-treated hair.
  • Works well on any hair type, preferably short-medium length hair.
  • Available in different and affordable travel-friendly sizes.

Cons of Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo:

  • It cannot replace our traditional shampoo.
  • It works well only on my scalp and mid length hair while my hair tips are usually dull and oily.
  • It gave me itchy scalp the next day and I always feel the need of shampooing my hair the next day or third day post usage of this shampoo.
  • It gives me itchy scalp, so might be tricky on dry/sensitive scalp.
  • This mini 1.4 Oz can might not last longer when used generously for definite results.

I feel it is quite economic and helpful for testing what works best on our hair and so I am quite happy that I opted for its mini size. Since I am using phytoparis treatment oil (which is equally scented), I wouldn’t like to continue with any type of dry shampoo unless it’s an emergency.  I would like to get it again once I finish up with my oil treatment provided it does not give me itchy scalp 😛
