Dubai Trip – Dubai Shopping Festival 2011

Dubai Trip – Dubai Shopping Festival 2011

Hello again girls. I had been away from IMBB for quite sometime now and I missed reading articles and chatting with everyone thoroughly. I have a lot of catching up to do . I was happily having a gala time in dubai with all of my family for a holiday and shopping trip . 🙂  And boy !! what a time I had. 🙂

I was supposed to head to Rajasthan in January end but then some work came up in lab and couldn’t make it. Then February came around and before I knew it, my family was planning for a holiday trip. Endless discussions at dinner table started with someone wanting to go to Hongkong while dad wishing to go to Sri Lanka. After a few days, Dubai was finally set. 😀  I was enthralled because it was the perfect time to go to Dubai .I always wanted to experience their Dubai Shopping Festival and I finally got the chance . 🙂
So now after the trip is over and we are finally home and finally unpacked !! I decided to share some of my memories with you all .

Dubai is one of the most visited cities in the world and belongs to one of the seven emirates of United Arab Emirates (UAE). While Abu Dhabi is the capital of UAE and also holds power over most of matters of country, Dubai has emerged as the global city which is more energetic and business hub attracting many people. Abu Dhabi is referred as the “quieter older brother” of Dubai which is “young dynamic and energetic”

Enough of talks – let’s see pics of some of places I visited while I was in Dubai –
This is “Jumeirah mosque” which is situated on Jumeirah road – one of the most expensive and exclusive areas in Dubai . It is the only mosque in Dubai, which is open to non- muslims. They provide special tours to tourists so as to provide insights into their religion – Islam.
The first glance was the most affecting. The strong expression of Islamic architecture is conveyed through the mosque’s design.

Next stop right down the road – Burj Al Arab – which has become the landmark of Dubai – one of the most magnificent structure in Dubai. It stood out on the artifical island (reclaimed land) from the beach of Jumeirah. Being an architect’s daughter, I take interest in building structures and interiors. This hotel structure was awe- inspiring and mimics the sail of a ship.
I have this seen hotel on discovery a lot but still wanted to visit inside but then dress code for men was “formals” only. We all were in holiday clothes breakfast in this hotel was 200 AEDs only. 😀

Next stop – Atlantis Hotel. It is located on Palm Jumeirah . Isn’t it magnificent ? The resort boasts the most beautiful aquarium and also the dolphin bay – where guests can interact and play with dolphins.

I wish I had better lenses to capture the whole hotel structure . 🙁

I was ecstatic to visit the next stop which was – Burj Khalifa and Dubai mall. Burj Khalifa – the tallest man-made structure ever built changed the skyline of Dubai. A tall sleek and shining structure was visible just as we were coming out of dubai airport and were on our way to the hotel .Visiting Burj Khalifa and on my way to its 124th floor had me amazed and awe-struck ( how did they manage to make this marvellous thing in just about 4 years of timespan!!)
Me outside Burj Khalifa – Don’t laugh looking at my glares, okay! They are not mine.  I had just borrowed these from my sis for for this pic. 😛

A view from the top – – isnt is magnificent?

Next stop was every shopping lover’s paradise- the Dubai Mall. I was so impatient to visit this mall. I wanted to visit all the shops in one go – sephora, zara, burberry, la senza, mikajy’s – all of it. Then I realised the sheer gravity of the situation lol! It’s not a child’s play. The mall is the world’s largest shopping mall – comprising of the Burj Khalifa complex and 1,200 shops- without a map you are lost!  Yup,  I lost my parents in this mall. 😛 They left us in the mall and went to the hotel while we kids were left behind to explore the mall.

The mall boasts magnificent Dubai aquarium and under water Zoo, Dubai Ice Rink and SEGA Republic. I was not able to check our sega republic, which is indoor theme park.  Let’s see some of pics I clicked while I was inside. The mall was bursting with activity because the shopping festival that was going on.  Big brands had “part sale” going on while other stores had pretty good sale offers. I picked up a few things from Zara.

Don’t you love the display !! This store had the most superb clothes. Unfortunately, I ran out of dirhams to buy anything . Disappointing. 🙁

I wanted to carry this whole tree to my room 😀 😀  Isn’t it cute ? It was located inside “candylicious” store in dubai mall. Yummy !!!!!!!!!

Dubai Shopping festival

Last few days of the trip, we were almost penniless. 😀  My parents said “enough shopping” . Let’s just roam around the city . This was the time when we explored – old dubai , dubai museum and gold and spice souks in Dubai. Let’s see some the pics I clicked.

This pic is of inside dubai museum. The boat is “abra”, which means water taxi’s which are still present in dDbai . They were the cheapest mode of transportation for one dirham for each person to get across the creek. I didn’t get the chance to take a ride on these abra’s . Maybe next time. 🙂

Me outside dubai museum – Now these glares are mine !! Got them from dubai mall.
This picture is of old dubai city . An interesting aspect of old dubai city structures were the wind towers build on top of the buildings. They traditional architectural element mainly part of residential houses. The function of this tower is to catch cooler breeze that prevail at a higher level above the ground and to direct it into the interior of the buildings.

Dubai buildings

Lastly , I advise everyone to visit spice and gold souk in Dubai . We had a very little time and missed it. We just saw it on our way passing by the road but couldn’t find the time to explore it on our own . 🙁

Dubai town

Who wouldnt love this?  😀 😀

Dubai Gold

Ok girls. This is it for now . As for my shopping , that will require another article. So until then – enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
