Hey there!

The first eye makeup tutorial I ever watched on YouTube, was one giving pointers for a perfect smokey eye. There is something so brilliantly enticing about a subtle smokey eye. It draws attention to your eyes and looks extremely seductive without being over the top. I love this particular style of eye makeup, but sometimes it’s hard to carry your entire makeup palette catering to this style. So in order to actually be able to have a subtle smokey eye wherever I go, I was on the lookout for a small travel-friendly smokey eye quad. The product I am now going now going to review is one such product I came across. Read on to see if I actually liked it or not.

Ingredients

Packaging

It comes in a plastic quad with all the colours being the same size. All the four shades work well together and should ideally work well for a smokey eye. It comes with the regular sponge applicator that I despise and use only when I apply the silver glitter highlighter in the inner corner of my eye. The pans are all suitably deep, so that there isn’t any unsavoury mixing of colours due to the occasional fallout.

My take on e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color Drama:

I really wanted to love this quad, I truly did. I read numerous rave reviews about this product and anticipated it’s arrival with bated breath. But sadly it didn’t meet my expectations. It’s not a bad product per se, but it’s not something to rave about either.
It’s an average product with not so great pigmentation and longevity that can be paired with a primer to make it work. It lasts about an hour or so on its own after which it just fades away. Paired with the e.l.f. Mineral Eyelid Primer, it lasts a good 6 hours after which it begins to fade.

Now about each shade individually:

-The white is supremely un-pigmented and doesn’t improve even over a primer.
-The silver looks cheap and glittery having tons of fallout.
-The black is decently pigmented with minimal fallout.
-The gunmetal grey is my favourite out of the lot. It’s pigmented without any fallout and has a subtle sheen.

6. Doesn’t last very long, without a primer

Would I repurchase e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color Drama?

Nah! I’ll probably try something else, I am not really a basic smoky eye person.

Would I recommend e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color Drama to friends?

At this price point, in tandem with a good primer? Sure!
