Today, I review a product that I think deserves more love and recognition from the makeup world. Most of us are used to splurging on base products – foundations, concealers, setting powders etc. so when there is a cheaper product in this category we tend to view it with a lot of scepticism. Most of the times we are not wrong, but once in a while we do come across an inexpensive product that delivers on almost all its tall claims. This Mineral Booster in shade Corrective Yellow from E.L.F. is one such find. The reason I even was looking for such a product was because I needed something to set my under-eyes that was yellower than my regular face compact. I initially wanted to purchase the BenNye Banana Powder , andwhile reading about it I came across this E.L.F. powder that some people have mentioned was a very good dupe for it. Now, I have never used the BenNye powder so I cannot comment on that. But by itself, this product fulfils all my needs. Read on for more information.

My experience with e.l.f. Mineral Booster in Corrective Yellow:
It comes in a small jar, with a black cap which when removed shows a sifter, underneath that the powder product rests. When opening this for the first time, there was a plastic cover over the holes of the swifter which had to be removed. After removing it, I thought before every use I will have to tap out as much as product I needed through the swifter on to the reversed cap and then swirl my brush in the cap to gather the product. I wish such ease was the case. The square holes In the sifter are so big that the first time I removed the cover, put the lid back on, gave it the lightest of shakes and opened it again, I noticed almost half of the entire product was above the sifter; and a lot of it is already on the cover. Which makes it very hard to gather product as very little is needed. If you tip your brush even lightly over it and tap out the excess, there is a heavy rain of yellow powder that you have to deal with it. The best way to use this is before opening the cap , prior to each use, tap the top repeatedly so that most of the product on the lid falls down and when you open it you are left with very little on the cap. Even while putting the cap back on, a lot of the product flies around and gets on your fingers & everywhere else you then touch. In the pictures, I tried to capture the “yellow powder rain” and the product loss during each closing.
It has a very smooth texture, when rubbed between two fingers it almost feels silken. It goes on with the same smoothness & mattifies the areas where it is applied. It is a very fine powder which is good for a sheer application but the finer a powder is, the more it flies away during use, resulting in a lot of product wastage.
It looks very yellow in the container but when sheered over the skin, it almost has no color to it; the yellow-ness though has a very brightening effect on the skin. But since this is not a skin-colored powder, care should be taken in how much product you apply or the area will look visibly yellow.
This product, like many, comes with a lot of claims. I primarily use it for 2 reasons:
I have very dark circles, I use an orange based color corrector, then I apply my yellow-toned concealer, to set this while retaining the color correction done I wanted something other than my skin-toned face setting powder, that is the reason I purchased this. And it works in that respect. As a bonus, it has a matte finish to it, which is good to set the creamy/liquid products used. The staying power, leaves more to be desired, I wished it stayed for longer than 3-4 hours, as it is not an easy product to carry around for touch-ups. But I only use this for days when I have heavy makeup on, which is not often & not for long, so I find this product very useful. It says that it has a blurring effect on fine lines, wrinkles, pores etc; I have found that it delivers to some extent in this claim but the effect is not very miraculous. But ever since I have started using this, I have come to appreciate it so much, that I reach for it every time I want to set my under eyes.
A brush is needed for each use; the size of it would depend on whether you want to dust it all over your face or just on areas where you applied a yellow corrector. For under eyes, a small brush will be ideal. I suggest using a fluffy brush & tapping out the excess before applying it. The fluffier the brush, the lighter is the application. I use it only for my under eyes, sometimes I use a fluffy brush to powder the area or I also use a damp beauty blender sponge to apply the product. I feel damp sponges dispense powder products very seamlessly and apply only the exact amount of product needed.
Pros of e.l.f. Mineral Booster in Corrective Yellow:
• The formula is very light & smooth for a face powder, does not look cakey at all
• It is a very good setting powder for under eyes over other concealers/correctors
• The yellow tone indeed has a corrective property to it
• Sheers out to a translucent effect
• Spreads into the skin easily
• Loaded up with ingredients that are good for the skin
• Inexpensive for the quantity of product provided
Cons of e.l.f. Mineral Booster in Corrective Yellow:
• Packaging is not the best for such a loose powder, product wastage with each use.
• The sifter should have had smaller holes to avoid excess product coming through it.
• Will not work on its own as a corrective product for dark under-eye circles.
• Not available in India, with ease.
4/5 – If I’m afraid to use a product because it flies away everywhere, then I will reach for it less often, that is why I deduct a point from it; also there is the unavailability issue of e.l.f products in India. Otherwise, this is a very decent product.
Will I repurchase/Do I recommend e.l.f. Mineral Booster in Corrective Yellow?
I do recommend this to anyone who uses yellow toned correctors or concealers or foundations and want to set those cream/liquid products. It is a very handy, effective and inexpensive product and would be a good addition to the makeup kit. As far as repurchasing is concerned, seeing that so much product is wasted with each use, I will have to repurchase it sooner rather than later, but since very little product is required I know this will last me a long time. Regardless of that this will definitely be on the list of products I order from abroad whenever friends or family travel.
I hope this helped & until next time – Happy Makeuping!
