e.l.f. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collection
Ever since I got bitten by the makeup bug, I have been on the lookout for local or international brands that provide quality at a very reasonable price. Being a full time college student, budgetary restrictions exist every step of the way. :p As far as I am concerned, my search for such a brand has ended with ELF makeup. A lot of them are high quality, pigmented and beautiful stand alone products. Admittedly, ELF has many misses but even more hits that can be pitted against the best luxury brands, the Mineral Eyelid primer being one of their numerous such hits. With a little careful research of makeup blogs, you are sure to get the best bang for your buck. So without further ado, I shall get on with my review for the first exhaustive makeup palette I have ever purchased.

It is a classy matte black box with windows to let the eyeshadows peek through. Once you open the box, you see the eyeshadows covered with a plastic cover, to prevent mixing of displaced eyeshadows. You then slide the eyeshadow tray in opposite directions and a virtual cornucopia is visible! :p The slider is a tad delicate and you must be very careful handling it, but I feel like a little kid on Christmas every time I open it so I’ll live with this tiny flaw. 😉
My take on E.L.F. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collection:
They are decently pigmented, even if they are a tad too powdery. The displaced eyeshdow (once you start using the palette) may sometimes fly around and make your life a wee bit irritating. But it’s nothing a little care can’t fix. When used over a primer (ELF Mineral Eyelid primer), the colours are vibrant and last for more than 8-9 hours. Without a primer, the colours are more subtle and last for a decent 5 hours, tops.
They are very sheer! Only the red one shows a teeny tiny amount of pigmentation, a little less than a tinted lipbalm. But layered over my favourite Maybelline lipstick (Fatal Red), they last for 1-2 hours.
They are a tad too chalky, especially the two cool toned pinks. But the peachy coral is a beautiful glimmer blush which is both pigmented and blends like a dream!
All but one, are a tad too shimmery for my taste. The darkest brown is a beautiful matte brown that lasts long and gives a beautiful blendable contour to my face that lasts for about 4-5 hours. The lightest shade, is a very pretty highlighter which doesn’t last more than 2 hours on my combination skin but looks stunning, as long as it does. Lighter skin tones will obviously have different shade preferences.
The face brush isn’t my favourite. I prefer denser and rounder brushes for ease of application, but that’s just a personal choice. The brush sheds a few hair after a good wash but retains its shape reasonably well. The eye brush packs pigment on pretty well but doesn’t blend all that well, but overall a very decent brush for everyday quick makeup looks .The lip brush is my favourite out of the lot. Not too stiff or pliant, it lines and fills lips perfectly! It hasn’t shed a single strand since its first wash.
Pros of E.L.F. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collection:
1. Classy matte black, travel safe packaging.
2. Huge amount of product offered for the small price asked.
3. ELF doesn’t test its products on animals.
5. Easy to apply due to it’s amazing texture (eyeshadows and bronzers)
6. Good pigmentation
7. Party shades, due to a healthy dose of shimmer.
8. Fairly long lasting
9. Wide shade selection
10. The lip brush is amazing.
11. The mirror provided is a nice touch.
Cons of E.L.F. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collection:
1. Presence of many chemicals
2. Some blush shades are chalky.
3. Most bronzer shades are too darn shimmery
4. The lip glosses aren’t pigmented, nor long lasting.
5. The eyeshadows are too powdery.
6. The shades are not named, so once you run out of your favourite shade, its game over.
7. It’s a tad too expensive at full price.
8. The eye and face brush aren’t brilliant.
9. You may need a primer for the true beauty of the eyeshadows to shine through.
10. Once you open the palette, you need to be careful not to drop it. It is very vulnerable to breakage, at this point.
Will I repurchase E.L.F. Studio 83 Piece Essential Makeup Collection?
