Ecotools Bamboo Finishing Kabuki Brush Review

EcoTools Kabuki Brush Review

I love love love love love this Ecotools brush. I was watching a Youtube video on makeup (celebrity featured was Kim Kardashian), when I was inspired by a small wide bristled brush used to apply normal liquid foundation for an air-brushed look. It was fast and simple and most effective way to apply a small amount of foundation to whole face, covering almost all the areas. So I had to hunt for one. So my research began, and similar brush (I think it was by MAC) was discontinued, so I started looking in other brands and EcoTools had introduced a new brush to their line which was close copy to the one in the video! So I knew I was in luck! It would be under $10 and quality would be damn good! I use other brushes from EcoTools and really like them!

So off to Walmart I went and bought this brush. It looks like my grandpa’s shaving brush, probably one of those antiques would have worked too! But none-the-less, I had one specifically for foundation purposes, so I set in my makeup drawer to use next day!

So next morning, I put 1 pump of MAC ProLong wear liquid foundation on a new blank CD , and dabbed my brush in it several times till it coated most of the bristles and then started with outer corner of nose to cheek area and then covering entire face with foundation, using stippling motion. It means quick dab, dab, dab over entire face. Then I started buffing the foundation (means rubbing with very light pressure) and with gentle sweeping motions, it blended the foundation pretty well into my skin, creating a nice air-brushed look. A word of caution, if you use too much foundation, it will leave streaks, and then you will have to work hard to blend, but 1 or 2 pumps creates a nice air brushed look. Very natural and very even. A good measure is small pea-sized amt of foundation.

Here are some more facts on the Ecotools Kabuki brush. I borrowed it from their website. And I do not use its re-sealable pouch; I don’t want to spoil the width of bristles by packing it in.

Cost : I paid about $7 with tax for this brush.
Texture of the bristles: Very smooth, very soft and it’s a mix of thick and thin bristles. It’s a mix of brown and cream bristles.
Ease of use: Very quick and easy application of foundation.
Quality of the brush: Great, I have washed it several times, Initially 1 or 2 times, couple of hairs shed out, but then none. It dries off pretty fast as well. The bristles retain their shape very well.

Best of all, I found other uses of the Ecotools Kabuki brush!!!!

1) I use it for setting powder over my foundation. Just dab a bit into compact, and apply with light sweeping motion.
2) I use it for brushing away the “Darkness or heaviness” of blush. So as to make it look like natural flush of weather on cheeks!

So it’s the brush for foundation application. My entire base makeup is done in under a minute due to this brush.I don’t use other foundation brushes or my fingers anymore for applying foundation.

Here are some pictures from my end.
