Effective Tips and Remedies to Control Hair Fall

Hair loss is a common problem amongst women. It is normal to lose around 50 – 80 hair strands every day. But if it becomes more then it becomes a problem for most of us. How to prevent it? Well, first of all you should know the causes of hair loss and secondly the remedies to prevent it. So let’s get started!

Causes of hair loss

Medical conditions: Hormonal changes in pregnancy, thyroid disorders, anemia, autoimmune diseases.
Stress: It is the major culprit. So ladies try to be calm and relaxed. Try to solve the problems in your life instead of getting stressed about it.
Genetic: Believe it or not, sometimes the problem is hereditary. Both parents may influence a person’s predisposition to male or female pattern of hair loss.
Diet: Diet deficient in protein, vitamins (vitamin A, B, C, E), minerals (zinc and iron) is a definite cause for hair fall.
Scalp conditions: Scalp conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, seborrhic dermatititis and fungal infections may cause more hair fall than normal.

Heat treatments: Heat treatments such as blow drying or styling, damages the hair and causes hair fall.
Lack of hair care: To achieve something you have to work on it. Without taking proper hair care, you cannot achieve good results.

Remedies

Medical conditions: Doing a regular blood test will help in diagnosing an underlying medical condition. Consult a doctor if you are suffering from any of the medical conditions stated above.
Diet: Eat a well balanced diet including proteins (eggs, pulses, soya), vitamins such as Vitamin A (sweet potato, carrot, spinach) Vitamin B (legumes, whole grains, yeast), Vitamin C (citrus fruits, guava), Vitamin E (Vegetable oils, spinach, almonds) and minerals such as zinc (Nuts, whole grains) and iron (meat, fish, poultry, dried beans). Drink at least 2 – 3 litres of water throughout the day. It will keep your hair and body hydrated.

Scalp Conditions: It is very important to keep your scalp healthy and clean. Healthy scalp means healthy hair. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and seborrhic dermatitis may cause itchy and scaly scalp. It is similar to dandruff but occurs in patches on the scalp. Some of these conditions may get aggravated by the use of hair oils as opposed to normal hair dandruff which is caused due to dryness of scalp. Medicated shampoos containing ketoconazole and salicylic acid may relieve the symptoms to certain extent. You should consult a doctor if are having any such scalp condition.
Heat treatments: I know you gals love the look of your hair after blow drying or straightening but believe me it damages your hair; limit this to once or twice a month.

Tips and tricks for hair care:

• Shampoo and condition you hair twice (dry hair) or thrice a week (oily hair or oily scalp). Avoid washing your hair daily as it will strip off natural oils from the hair. Use a shampoo which is sulphate and paraben free.
• After washing the hair remove excess water from the hair and let it dry naturally. Also detangle your hair with your fingers when it is damp. Comb your hair with wide tooth comb once it is dried.
• Use a good homemade hair mask once a week. Mix 4 tbs of aloe vera gel (fresh or store bought) with 3 tbs of honey for medium length hair. You can also add 1 tbs of olive oil to the mask for extra nourishment.
• Try to avoid knots and tangles in your hair while shampooing or oiling your hair. This can be done by combing your hair before you wash or oil your hair.
• Avoid using overnight oil treatment if you have oily scalp or hair. Instead apply it two hours before you wash your hair.

• Do not massage your hair vigorously when you put oil on your hair. This will do more bad than good to your hair. Instead massage gently in circular motion on the scalp.
• Hot oil treatments are good for the hair but do not put excessive oil on your hair such that it is transferred to the pillows. Just enough to condition the scalp and cover tips of your hair. Excess oil is harmful in your food as well as for your hair.
• Use few drops of argan oil and apply as a leave in conditioner instead of chemical based leave in conditioners.
