ELF Brightening Eye Color Quad Punk Funk Review, Swatches

ELF Brightening Eye Color quad Punk Funk – review, swatches:

Hi All,

Today I am reviewing ELF brightening eye color quad in Punk Funk. ELF has different combinations of quads in this range. I bought the Punk Funk, I don’t know why. It is a very colorful quad; you can easily guess it from the name. There are four colors in this quad – electric blue, pink, purple and white.

Price: $1 (in US). INR 150 (in India).
Quantity: 0.09oz/2.5g

What the product says:

  • Long-lasting, easy blending color.
  • Instantly brightens and defines.
  • Eyes look fresh and wide awake.
  • Light reflecting, crease resistant and longwear.

My experience:

ELF  brightening eye color quad comes in a cute little plastic packaging. It contains four shades – blue, pink, purple and white. All the colors are non-shimmery except the pink one. Only the pink color is shimmery and that’s why it is the best shade out of the four. All the colors are matte and the purple shade is quite chalky. The base or highlighting white shade gives a slight pinkish tint when applied. The quad comes with an applicator which looks quite cheap. And oh, the quad has a small mirror in the applicator compartment.

Never mind the background images. 😛

Well, ELF cosmetics is famous for its $1 range of cosmetics; some of them are really good. But I think this one is not up to the mark. All the shades except the pink one are matte and dry. They don’t look much good after application. Moreover the application is quite difficult due to the dryness. It takes 3-4 sweeps to make it presentable. And it falls off a LOT. U can understand that when u see my pic at the end of the post. When I applied this shadow, I got powdery colors all over my face.
I have read in many reviews that the 19 quads in this brightening eye color range have different qualities. Some of them are good; some of them are not so good. For instance, the drama quad has a overall positive review. But, I don’t like my Punk Funk quad. I think, even Lakme eyeshadow is better than ELF e/s. But, when you are paying just $1 for an eyeshadow in 2011, you should better not complain much.

What I like about ELF brightening eye color quad:

  • Pocket friendly.
  • Lots of different shades to play with.
  • Packaging is nice.

What I don’t like about ELF Brightening Eye Color Quad

  • Very very chalky.
  • Falls off a LOT.
  • Color pay-off is not so good.
  • Does not show up if not applied with a cream base.
  • All the colors are not available in India.

Verdict:

ELF brightening eye color quad is not a very standard eyeshadow quad. It has a lot of drawbacks. But since it comes at just $1, this is not a great loss. I can say that it is a good option for the beginners, but not for the veteran players. 😀

Shall I purchase this again? Nope. There are plenty good products in the market.
Rating: 2/5. -1 for bad quality, -1 for bad color payoff and fall-off and -1 for availability.

Finally, this is how ELF Punk Funk looks on my eyes.

My eyelashes are looking blue not because I applied blue mascara; it is due to the fall out. 😐
Take care. 🙂

  1. I saw this the other day in sum shop…….i wanted to take it and not take it too.. 🙁

i was unsure abt the pigmentation..thank god i didnt pick it. 🙂

    1. Rati, i don’t have any in particular. actually, i am confused between ‘primer’ and ‘base’. what r the differences btw? ?:) ?:) sometimes i use a white eyepencil as base.

      1. Base is sometimes referred to as foundation. primers are something that make your eye shadows or face products last long and create a smoother base for your eyeshadow and foundations. You may pick up Beyu primer or even use your foundation + compact powder to prime your lids., Not only it will help your eye shadows last longer but would also make them look more intense.

        1. i use the Lakme invisible foundation as primer. but sometimes i hav seen people use ‘primer’ and ‘base’ differently. i was very confused by that.

          1. It’s like primer is a base for your eye shadows. face primer is a base for your foundation. And Foundation is your base makeup and you can apply your blush, highlighter bonzer , powder etc on top of it.

Invisible foundation wouldn’t make a good base . you should use something creamy or thick. Why dont you pick up an oriflame concealer stick. i think neha mentioned that they make good eyeshadow bases. 🙂

            1. hmm. u said right. i hav creasing problem with invisible foundation. oriflame concealer stick sounds good. it would be a concealer cum primer. only problem is to find a representative. thank u very much, Rati.  :kissing: :kissing:

  2. m going to write a hate mail to ELF for not selling thr products in India / Delhi …. :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali:

      1. haanji…
last nyt i recd thr newsletter which says thy r giving $80 worth make up brushes on thr online orders….

        1. Not everything is rosy about ELF products. Many of their products like this one are sub-par. They have one of the highest shipping charges in the US and they ship their products very slowly compared to other online stores(sometimes 2-3 weeks later). They also sometimes make ridiculous comparisons of their products to high value products. That all being said, many of their products are fabulous and if I were still in US would probably blow up a lot of money each month on their products :).

            1. Neha please try the Chambor trios. They have some gorgeous pink trios. I have a trio with a black grey, copper and golden highlight shade and you might have seen it in some of my posts on my blog. I use it quite often and I love the quality of these eyeshadows. I’m planning to pick up on the pink trios myself. I use with BeYu primer underneath and it works wonderfully for me.

    1. thanks suma..yeah,the colors r pretty. i went crazy when i saw them on website. but they r not that good in quality. 😐 u hav the Dream quad, na? how is that btw?

  5. Bulbul…i likeddddd the pink      ..too bad it is no good :struggle: :struggle: :struggle: :struggle: ….

  6. Too bad it didn’t work out so well. Try using it with a primer underneath Bulbul. I use BeYu primer and it makes a lot of chalky/less pigmented shadows work for me.
