ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow Review

Hi lovely readers,

This is the first time I have bought a baked eyeshadow from ELF and it’s perhaps the last time as well because this product failed miserably in every aspect. I am, in general, not that fond of baked eyeshadows to begin with, but I wanted to try something new at a reasonable price, hence this purchase.  Read on further to know more about this product.

ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow Review

Product Description:
The silky and blend-able formula of our baked eyeshadow provides smooth and even application with each sweep of color. Baked in an oven, these eyeshadows offer rich pigmentation for a beautiful effect. Infused with active key ingredients Jojoba, Rose, Sunflower, Apricot and Grape to nourish and hydrate the skin. The long-lasting and shimmering color can be worn wet for a vibrant effect or dry for sheer pigmentation, offering a variety of gorgeous eye looks! Apply dry all over the eyelid with a brush for a subtle wash of color or apply wet for a vibrant effect.

My Take on ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow:

Packaging:  There is nothing fascinating about the packaging, rather I found it a bit flimsy, but still nothing to complain about or point out as a flaw. This eyeshadow is set in a dome shape in a plastic pan with a clear, flip cap.

Packaging

Texture:  It is a baked eyeshadow which has a very firm texture, hence the advantage is that it has no fallout, but a major con is that it has extremely poor pigmentation and color payoff. I had a hard time trying to pick up this product on a brush (wet or damp) or fingers and even after vigorously rubbing it on my arm, I got passable color payoff and once applied on the lids, it was hard to blend or work with. I love the concept of baked eyeshadows, but most of them perform the way the product in this post does, hence it was not a shocker that it turned out to be a dud.

Color:  A pretty dark chocolate color with warm undertones and very subtle golden shimmer.

Pigmentation: I would reiterate that it has poor pigmentation and is not even worth a try. It is hard to pick up on a brush, transfer to the lids, and then blend. I like the color and it seems like that it can be used to create brown smokey eyes, but the way it performs, “smokey eye” look is an impossible feat to achieve.

Swatch

Application: I used it on my lids to do a soft brown eye makeup look, but what I achieved was a feeble, brown color on my lids which was hardly visible. In short, I am in no position to comment about the application methodology of this product.

Wear Time:  Whatever feeble effect it created on my lids did manage to stay intact for 5 to 6 hours, but the intensity did diminish with time and was another factor to whine about.

This baked eyeshadow could have been a good product but the texture and color payoff ruined it all. It comes in several other appealing shades, but the way this particular shade performed made me wary from picking up any more eyeshadows from this range.

Pros of ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow:

  • Decent packaging, clear lid makes identification of the color easy.
  • All the 7 colors in the range are warm toned.
  • Will look good on all types of skin tones.
  • Satin finish.
  • Minimal fall out.
  • Affordable and one can acquire all the shades at a minimal price.

Cons of ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow:

  • Horrible pigmentation.
  • Poor color payoff even after using a damp sponge or a brush.
  • Very stiff texture, hard to blend.

Would I Repurchase ELF Chocolate Dreams Baked Eyeshadow?

No, because it is not worth the effort or money and I don’t recommend it to readers; ELF has a lot of amazing and affordable products, but this particular eye shadow is not one of them.
