Ever since my interest in makeup blossomed, one product that really confused me was the highlighter. I was unable to understand how one can actually put any feature in the forefront with a mere blending of product. It seemed utterly magical and truly transformative. But sadly most highlighters available in India, at least affordable ones, have a very pearlescent glow that just seems garish and obvious on darker skin tones. Tired of this colorist mentality, I decided to look into highlighters elsewhere, ones with a bronze hue that would actually highlight my features. The product I am now going to review is one such product that I have purchased in my quest for an HG highlighter.
This 3-in-1 Color Stick adds a beautiful glow to your eyes, lips, or face! Get gorgeous color that illuminates and instantly conditions skin for fresh and natural color all day long. Blend anywhere you would like to highlight and brighten like your cheeks and brow bones. Twist stick and apply liberally to face, eyes and/or lips.
Aqua(Water), Isopropyl Myristate, Octyl Isopalmitate, Ceresin Wax, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcristallina), Sorbitol, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491 , CI 77492 , CI 77499), Red No.6 Lake (CI 15850).
It comes in a handy twist-up style packaging that dispenses the product but seems insanely unhygienic especially if you have friends like mine, who just jump on any makeup product that I might be using. It has a fairly travel-safe packaging, even if the transparent plastic lid looks a tad too flimsy. The packaging looks cheap but at $1, one can’t expect a very sleek classy packaging and a good quality product.
My Take on ELF All Over Colour Stick in Toasted:
First off, keeping the hygiene factor in mind, I tried to use a brush for application of the product, but blending was a nightmare and still wasn’t flawless. The best way to apply this product is by using your fingertips as your body heat helps in blending out the product flawlessly.
The colour is this absolutely gorgeous bronze that does remind me of a perfectly toasted brown bread. It has this beautiful sheen as opposed to shimmer that works brilliantly as a highlighter. It gives me this luminescent, lit from within glow that looks gorgeous.
But sadly it leaves a lot to be desired in the longevity department as it lasts for a mere 2-3 hours, and after that, it just seems to disappear in the atmosphere. It’s longevity can be improved by either setting it with a translucent powder or by using it above a primer, with which it lasts almost the entire day with minimal fading.
Even though it is essentially an all over colour stick, I am a little wary of using it anywhere close to my eyes, especially when I have my contacts in, because it isn’t ophthalmologically tested. I would suggest that everyone is cautious of the same, when it comes to any eye/multi-purpose cosmetic product.
