ELF Cream Eyeliner in Plum Purple Review

ELF Cream Eyeliner in Plum Purple Review

Hey There!

Like any other makeup enthusiast, I know that gel liners are now the crème de la crème of liners. The budge proof, water resistant formula with amazing longevity makes it the first option for fashionistas everywhere. It’s versatility, seeing as you can use it as an eyeshadow base, eyeshadow or liner make it an incredibly handy product. My foray into gel liners began with the trusty old Maybelline gel liner which was incredible but whet my appetite for coloured gel liners. Then on, I bought Black and Teal Tease E.L.F. cream liners through my elder bro. This time, when he came, I asked him to get a few other colours and the product I am going to review now is one of them.

Dip the thin angled brush into the formula, swirl around gently until brush is saturated with colour. Swipe off any excess formula on the top edge of the pot. Trace a line along the top lash line from the inner corner towards the outer corner of the eye. If desired, apply on lower lash line as well. Remove with an oil-based eye makeup remover.

Packaging:

It comes in a cute but bulky plastic, thick bottomed tub which is travel friendly if not particularly classy. Plastic generally dries out gel liners faster than glass ones, so it’s best to store this product inverted. Easy to locate in your vanity, due to transparent packaging that allows the colour to peek through.

My Take on ELF Cream Eyeliner in Plum Purple:

The best part about this product is it’s subtlety.  For pale beauties who turn to brown liner because black is too harsh, this is a perfect alternative. The plum colour is subtle especially in the first few layers. On further layering, the shade turns opaque and bold. While application is a bit of a hassle, due to the need for layering, the final result more than makes up for it. This isn’t a product that you can just swipe and run out of the house, but a little patience pays off in truckloads.

The finish is supposed to be matte, but gives off a slight metallic sheen in certain lighting, which for a young person like me, is a pro but could be a con for more mature ladies. It also stays as a liner for an entire college day with very slight fading on the outer corner of my eyes (if I wing my liner).

This is understandable as that area is slightly oily but a longevity of 6-7 hours is pretty amazing, especially at a $3 price point.  The applicator is decent, cool for some on the go application, but I prefer using my own angled brush when I can. This applicator doesn’t let you create very fine lines, nor does it hold its shape well, which makes application irritatingly slow.
