ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe Review

ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe Review

Hello IMBBians!

ELF+Essential+Brightening+Eye+Color+Quad+Luxe+Review

I have at least 13 different quads from this ELF Brightening Eye Color range and I have had it for over 6 months now. So, I have had a good amount of time to develop favourites and identify the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from this range. This particular one – Luxe, is definitely one of the “good” ones.

Packaging:

Cheap – it is the first word that pops to the mind when I think of its packaging. It has held up pretty well but the hinges, the feel of it is just below par compared to other quads. For one dollar, I honestly did not expect to be bowled over, so I guess it could be overlooked as long as it stays intact.  It has a mirror, it is a very thin strip, but serves the purpose when you carry it with you and want to just touch up or check how the colors are holding up. The sponge tip applicator it comes with is very small to be comfortably used but it is not useless. I do like sponge tip, as I feel they help in packing on color, but I rather use a flat synthetic brush than a sponge tip any day.

Colors:

It comes with 4 colors:

  • A light shimmery golden – great as an inner corner highlighter or brow bone highlighter.
  • A deep shimmery pink – those who like pink, will definitely like this one. It has almost a magenta look to it in the pan but when applied it looks like a very deep, dark pink; without any purple hues.
  • A duochrome shimmery greenish grey – in the pan it looks greenish but when applied on the eyes, I always feel like the grey in it cancels out the green. If applied on its own with a black eye liner, the green tends to show up then.
  • A shimmery taupe-y pink – this is my favourite color from this quad, it is a great color to blend out in the crease, and on its own with a brown/black eyeliner it looks very subtly beautiful and can be used as an everyday color. I will finish this up pretty quickly given the rate at which I use it.

Texture:

Surprisingly, the colors are very creamy, they do not feel powdery nor do they have any major fall out when it us being used on the eyes. The shimmer that they have is not at all chunky or glittery, in fact there are no specks.  It is just the characteristic of the color that it has a satiny/shimmery finish. For one dollar, I am pretty pleased at their texture. Not all quads have such texture though.

Color Pay Off and Staying Power:

When you swatch it using your finger on your hand, they do look very pigmented, but when they are blended out, they do not appear as pigmented and you would need 2-3 layers for the true color to show up. I recommend applying them with fingers and blending the edges out with a brush. I have no major complaints regarding the staying power. It is pretty standard, a primer will prolong it as it would any other eye shadow, but I don’t feel a primer is needed at all.

For this quad:

The left 4 swatches are over a primer, the right 4 without any primer. As you can see, there is no major difference between the two.

EOTD:

10 ELF EBEC Luxe

Here I have used the sponge tip applicator, it comes with to apply the light gold in the inner 2/3rd of the eye, the dark pink in the outer corner and used the taupe-y pink to blend them in the crease. I used a separate angled eye liner brush to line my eyes using the greyish color. The grey does get dull when placed over the gold. The pink looked too dark when compared to other colors so I blended it out further using a fluffy brush.

Pros of ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe:

  • Inexpensive.
  • Good color combination.
  • A complete palette to create an eye look.
  • Texture is creamy, not at all powdery.
  • Comes with an applicator.
  • Tiny and travel friendly; with a mirror.
  • Good color pay-off; even without a primer.

Cons of ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe:

  • Not a sturdy packaging.
  • Not everyone likes using a sponge tip applicator.
  • The mirror is too tiny.
  • Colors show up better when applied with a finger; with a brush the pay-off is pretty average.
  • Non-availability in India.

IMBB Rating:

3/5; it is decent and one of the best quads from the Essential Brightening range of ELF, but it is nothing spectacular.

Do I Recommend ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe?

This is one of the nice ones from this range. If you are looking to pick up a few quads, then do give this one a go.

Will I Repurchase ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color Quad – Luxe?

No, I have other palettes that have these colors with better performance, so I will not be repurchasing exactly this same quad again.

I hope this helped you all and Happy Makeuping!
