Mascara is just one of those miracle products that has the potential to turn someone from drab to fab. As a teen, this was the second most-used product in my vanity, after lip gloss. The very idea of making my lashes lush and eyes more mysterious just appealed to my inner teen glamazon. :p My Maybelline Hypercurl Mascara has been my favourite mascara for quite a while, but I am always on the lookout for an HG product. The product I am going to review is another one of the mascaras that I have tried, on the path to my HG mascara.

My Take on ELF Essential Lengthening and Defining Mascara in Black:
At this price point, one can’t really critique a product without letting the low price colour one’s judgement. It’s a ghastly mascara at least not particularly so. The formula begins to clump your lashes after the second coat and never really dries completely. It stays a little tacky and leaves you with slightly uncomfortable eyelid movement, but nevertheless, the brush is very good and does lengthen lashes to a certain extent.
But it begins to flake after a mere hour and removing it gives new meaning to “stubborn as a mule.” In my quest to remove the mascara, using baby oil no less, I think a few lashes died a brave death. But as I said, at one dollar, you can’t exactly expect the moon.
Pros of ELF Essential Lengthening and Defining Mascara in Black:
- Sturdy travel-safe packaging.
- Universally flattering shade, will suit every skin tone and age group.
- Mascara brush does lengthen your lashes.
Cons of ELF Essential Lengthening and Defining Mascara in Black:
- Presence of many chemicals.
- Remains tacky.
- Clumps lashes after second coat.
- Removal is a pain in the rear end.
- The colour is jet black.
