ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy Review

ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy Review

Hi Ladies,

ELF Essential Lipstick Posh and Gypsy Review

I have pretty much every shade from this ELF Essential Lipstick line and these two are surely my absolute favourite. They are so similar that if I were to review them separately, I would have to copy-paste pretty much every word, so I’m clubbing these two together. Both are deep pinks and I personally always lean towards pink lip shades, so you can imagine why I am partial towards these two.  Among these, if I had to pick, I would say I use Posh more than Gypsy.

My Experience with ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy:

Packaging: For $1, it is good, but compared to other brands, it falls way too short. It feels very toy-like plastic. The bullet also does not feel very sturdy; my heart was in my throat when I twisted it up completely for taking images for this review. Even while applying, I make sure I expose only as little as needed part of the bullet. It is very creamy and may snap if a lot of pressure is applied.

Pink Lipstick 5

Color:  As you can see, both are deep, medium-dark pinks. Gypsy is pinker than Posh, as Posh has reddish tones to it. Both are cool toned, but Posh is a bit less cool as it has the warmth of a red to it. Even without a lip liner, the color shows up very well. One swipe is enough for an even application; multiple swipes will give you a very lusciously creamy look. The color that you see in the bullet is the color you get on the lips.

With flashlight: on the left, is a single swipe and on the right multiple swipes for each color respectively.

Pink Lipstick 6

In sunlight:

07 ELF Posh Gypsy

Texture:  It is very moisturising and does not accentuate any fine lines at all. It feels very creamy on application and in a good way. As time goes, the moistening effect wears off.

Fragrance:  It smells AMAZING!!!! You have to take a whiff of this the first chance you get. On the lips, this effect stays for around 30 odd minutes, then it is completely gone. I really wished it lasted longer. It is like fresh strawberries or a bowl of mixed berries and vanilla. It is the best-smelling lipstick I have ever owned.

Staying Power:  For 2-3 hours, the color stays on pretty well, this is exclusive to these two shades in this range, as these are darker. After that, it starts fading, but the good thing is that it fades very uniformly and is not patchy at all. I personally retouch this every 2 hours or so, but that is more because I get to enjoy the fragrance and less due to the color wearing off.

Pros of ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy:

  • It’s 1 dollar and it works!
  • The colors are beautiful.
  • Lips really do look very healthy and supple after applying these.
  • Staying power is pretty decent.
  • The fragrance is so YUMMY, I can’t stop taking a whiff of them if I have them in my hands.
  • If you many multiple colors from this range, it is easy to spot the color due to the clear plastic in the middle of the packaging.
  • It is creamy and moisturising.
  • Works well enough even without a liner, it is well pigmented.
  • Though the packaging feels very cheap, it has been intact since almost 6 months now.
  • These particular colors would suit a lot of Indian skin tones.

Cons of ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy:

  • The packaging feels very cheap.
  • The bullet also does not feel sturdy at all. I always twist it up to expose only as little of the bullet as needed.
  • Though is it very inexpensive, in India as its mostly available online, the price can be varied and much higher.
  • Contains parabens.

IMBB Rating:

4/5, I would have given it a perfect rating if the packaging was better.

Do I Recommend/Will I Repurchase ELF Essential Lipstick – Posh and Gypsy?

Absolutely! If these colors are not to your liking, then ELF does have many shades in this range, do check them out if you can. For just $1, it is more than worth it. I will definitely be repurchasing “Posh” as I really love that shade more.

I hope this helped you girls and Happy Makeuping!
