ELF Essential Liquid Eyeliner – Midnight Review
Hello Beauties,
Liquid liners and I are very good friends. Initially, the relationship was very uneven and shaky, but now they treat me well. Point is, with time one gets a better hang of liquid liners. The reason I love using them so much is because they give a very nice, crisp effect. So when I was once ordering stuff from ELF, I saw these liquid liners and really wanted to try all colors, especially since they were just a dollar. These are available in Coffee, Black, Plum, Silver, Stardust and Copper shades as well. Tempted by the price, I bought all except for the Black and Copper ones as they were out of stock. I have have mixed experiences with these eyeliners. Some give me no issues, while others do. Read on for my experience with this particular shade.
Product Description:
No more tugging or pulling on your eyelids with this easy glide Liquid Eyeliner. The smudge-proof liner is rich in color, creating a long lasting defined look. The fine tip brush creates easy and precise definition for natural or dramatic eye effects.
Directions For Use:
- Begin at the inner corner of the eye along the lash line and work outwards.
- Position brush tip close to the lash roots, and in a gentle, fluid movement brush color along the natural curve of your lash line.
Ingredients:
Water(Aqua), Styrene/Acrylates/Ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Xathan Gum, Sodium Laureth-12 Sulfate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI 77289), Yellow No. 5 Lake (CI 19140), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Blue No.1 Lake (CI 42090).
Price:
$1.00 or ~ Rs. 55/-
Packaging:
The color of the pot is the same color of the eyeliner and the handle is black. It is all plastic and feels very sturdy, very industry standard packaging. Since I have multiple shades of eyeliners from this ELF range, I know that not all liners come with good packaging. Some are just lemons. This one luckily is a good one.
Tip:
The tip is very fine and has synthetic hair; it is just the right thickness and length according to my preference. It’s thin enough to get precise lines from the tip and when pressed down, it makes a line thick enough to fill larger spaces. I have been using this for over 6 months now and the tip has remained intact, there has been no shedding or fraying of any kind. It is very impressive for just a dollar.
Application, Color Pay Off and Staying Power:
The application is just as one would expect from liquid eyeliners, if you are used to it, it will be easy. The color goes on exactly how it looks on the bottle, very blue and true to its name. Even one swipe gives a very deep color. If you want more “blue,” then multiple swipes does help in achieving that. The color has a certain sheen, a glossy finish to it, so if you prefer an absolute matte look, this may not be your thing. Then again, the sheen gets highlighted only when light falls and changes angles. It takes some time to dry completely, but nothing unusual for a liquid color. The staying power, for my normal lids without a primer under it, is more than just decent. On me it lasts all day, till I want to take it off. It is long lasting and smudge proof, but not water-proof, so if you do get water on it, then it starts to fade away almost immediately.
In the following image, the Midnight’s color (left) is compared to a black liquid liner (right).
Pros of ELF Essential Liquid Eyeliner – Midnight:
- Lovely deep dark color – true to its name.
- True to claims as well, long lasting, smudge proof, easy to apply, fine tip.
- Color of the bottle is same as the liner’s color, very convenient.
- Pigmented color – shows up pretty well with one swipe.
- Inexpensive.
- Sturdy packaging.
Cons of ELF Essential Liquid Eyeliner – Midnight:
- Availability in India.
- It is not waterproof.
I have used this liquid liner here on the upper lid and also in the outer corner. (The tutorial for this look can be found here.)
IMBB Rating:
4.5/5, since it is true to all its claims, I give it a very favourable rating. But for a full rating, ELF has got to come to India at good prizes and make their products easily available!
Will I Repurchase/Do I Recommend ELF Essential Liquid Eyeliner – Midnight:
I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves liquid liners. Even for beginners, this is sturdy enough to let you get a hang of liquid liners before you move on to high-end/expensive brands. For the price, you just can’t wrong much with it. I have the same color Midnight Gel Liner from Elf and I have a pencil of this same blue shade as well, but the easiest of them all for me is to apply this liquid one, so I would love to repurchase it!
I hope this helped you all and until next time Happy Makeuping!
