ELF Illuminating Face Primer Review

Greetings fellow bloggers!!!

Last week, I had reviewed a tone adjusting primer from ELF and had only good things to say about it, but unfortunately, I was not so impressed by this particular product because it didn’t do what it claimed. I was expecting it to act like a strobe cream and add that extra sheen to the face, but that’s not what I experienced and was let down by the poor performance of this primer.  Read on to find out what went wrong with this particular primer from ELF.

My Take on ELF Illuminating Face Primer:

I don’t not have fine lines yet and I don’t either have nasty black heads or huge pimples, but I need a primer to give me a smooth canvas to work with and make blending of cream products easier.  Since this product claimed to do the same and also claimed to add sheen to the face as extra bonus, I decided to buy it.

Packaging:  This product comes in a translucent, matte, plastic bottle with a pump dispenser and a clear cap on top. I like the packaging – it’s hygienic, easy to store and carry around.  It dispenses just a dollop of product every time.

Texture:  The drop of primer looks like a pale yellow goop with glitter particles, however, it is easier to blend compared to a moisturizer because it contains silica, and it gives a smooth finish. After blending, the face appears smooth, but it does not have the same effect as a strobe cream and that let me down.

Packaging

I didn’t notice any dramatic reduction in my pores or fine lines, but again, I don’t have either of them in an obvious manner that I would notice any such effect, but like I mentioned before, I was expecting it to act like a strobe cream, but alas that did not happen and that ruined the sole purpose of this product.

The key ingredient of a primer is silicone and that’s what gives the instant albeit artificial smoothness to my skin and makes application of makeup easier, especially heavy-coverage cream makeup which applies like a cake and is a bit hard to blend.

Swatch primer

My foundation tends to crease around my mouth and nose which is apparent on close inspection, but with this primer underneath, creasing is reduced to a large extent and my makeup gave a better wear time.

Staying Power: My makeup was intact for 8-10 hours and also there was less visible creasing and cracking of makeup. This primer increased the wear time of my makeup in general and products such as my blush and bronzer stay put for longer duration.

Pros of ELF Illuminating Face Primer:

  • Sturdy, pump dispenser bottle.
  • This primer is for all skin types and tones.
  • It gives very silicone-y smoothness to the face.
  • Increases wear time of makeup.
  • Prevents makeup from creasing.
  • Makes application and blending of makeup easier.
  • Dispenses a dollop of product every tine, hence no wastage.
  • Not very expensive.
  • Easily available.

Cons of ELF Illuminating Face Primer:

  • Has a very strong, rather unpleasant smell.
  • Did not act like a strobe cream or add any sheen to my face.

Would I Repurchase ELF Illuminating Face Primer?

No, because it did not perform the way it claims to and let me down. I wanted this product to work, but it did not and was a huge disappointment.
