While browsing through the ELF website before placing my order, I clicked on their “New” tab and discovered a few really “New” items. Two of these I review here today. One is a shield for applying mascara and eyeshadow fall out and then the other is for applying glitter.
ELF Studio Mascara and Shadow Shield:
Apply eye makeup flawlessly with this innovative and mistake-proof Mascara & Shadow Shield. The silicon flexible and convenient design works to shield your skin against mascara smears and eyeshadow fallout. The reusable and reversible design works on both eyes, under eye or over eye, for easy makeup application. The ideal tool for achieving gorgeous eye looks without smudges and fallout! Great for makeup artists or aspiring makeup artists.
Prior to eyeshadow and bottom lash mascara application, place the shield comfortably and snugly below the bottom lash line and apply makeup, using the shield to guard you against any makeup smears or mistakes. Place above the eye when applying mascara to shield against smudges on the top lashes. Clean and flip the shield to repeat on the other eye.
Care Instructions: Cleanse regularly with the Studio Brush Shampoo and lay flat to dry.
ELF Studio Glitter Eyeshadow Applicator:
End glitter fallout and get gorgeous sparkling eyes with this innovative, unique Glitter Applicator. The silicone head is specifically designed to apply glitter. Comfort soft material grabs glitter and places it directly on the eyelid for precise and concentrated application. Great for loose or pressed glitter eyeshadow.
$3 (~Rs. 165) each (sold seperately).
ELF Studio Mascara and Shadow Shield:
What a find! This product works very well in catching the fallout from those dreaded dark shades! It is a very soft, flexible silicon shield. It does not feel heavy on the skin at all. The best part of this is that it is very easy to clean. It has a unique shape that fits well into the grooves of the eye and has a convenient handle to hold it in place. It is a very thin shield but it is sturdy enough.
I just hold it below my eye while doing looks that use dark colors that tend to have fall out. I imagine that for someone who is used to using both hands while doing makeup, as in to hold the skin taut or so may find it difficult to use this product as it needs to be held in place.
I honestly do not use it for mascara application at all, but I can make out that it would work for people who have issues in this area. The smaller curve fits well around the bridge of the nose. I am assuming this is how one holds it while applying mascara, but I could be wrong. It is a new product and the website does not show how exactly to hold it.
The Studio Glitter Eyeshadow Applicator:
This product I like more! It is EXCELLENT for picking up glitter, I don’t know how it works but it does. The glitter particles stay put on the silicon head when picked up. It is also of the same silicon material as the shadow shield but this is much more thicker, which is good as it helps in placing the glitter precisely.
When dipped in any gliiter or run over a glittery eyeshadow, the glitter particles hold fast to the head and then one needs to pat it only on the area where it is needed. Patting only works, if you rub it back and forth, the glitter falls off. But this is just for picking up and placing colour. If you do not have an adhesive base to stick it onto, then for sure the glitter will fall off. The trick is to tap off the excess before applying it over the eye, as only the required glitter will stick to the glue already placed.
After applying, some glitter remains on the applicator and comes off only after carefully wiping it.
Pros of ELF Mascara and Shadow Shield – Studio Glitter Eyeshadow Applicator:
- They both do their job.
- Both are affordable.
- The silicone material is soft and smooth on the skin.
- Can be easily cleaned.
- Very lightweight.
- Unique products.
Cons of ELF Mascara and Shadow Shield – Studio Glitter Eyeshadow Applicator:
- The holding of the shadow shield might be an issue for some who need to use both hands while applying eye makeup.
- Non-availability in India.
For the shadow shield: 4.5/5, might be bulky for some.
For the glitter applicator: 5/5.
Overall, I really am glad I got these two products. They are not must-haves, but it doesn’t hurt too much to own them. They are simple and functional tools.
I hope you liked knowing about these, thank you for your time in reading this and happy Makeuping!
