e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow Sweet-Review, EOTD
Today I want to talk about one of ELF’s most popular products, mineral eyeshadow. I have 2 shades in this range, here I review the color Sweet – a soft, shimmery, pink pigment. Pigments are not everyone’s cup of tea but I personally love using them. They are versatile & fun to use; and this one is surely a very good quality one.
Product Description on Website:

Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Boron Nitride, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate(Ve) , Retinyl Palmitate(Va), Panthenol(Vb), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate(Vc). May Contain: Iron Oxides(CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarine Blue(CI 77007)
Zinc Oxide has natural healing qualities and is used to calm and soothe irritated skin and is an anti-inflammatory. It also acts as a physical barrier that provides excellent protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Titanium Dioxide is also an important ingredient because of its ability to provide sun protection to the skin. Mica ingredient imparts a soft focus effect that creates a natural, healthy, and youthful glow that instantly fills facial lines to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Silica delays the aging process by moisturizing skin and stimulating collagen re-growth and also helps deliver a silky feel. Retinyl Palmitate is a Vitamin A derivative that helps to reverse signs of aging. Panthenol is a B complex vitamin, aiding in skin moisturization. Palmitate is known to normalize skin. It will help to keep skin soft and plump. Clinical results have shown that vitamin A palmitate significantly increased skin composition to increase collagen, DNA, skin thickness, and elasticity.

My Experience with e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet:
The thing that irks me the most when buying something online is that swatch on the website can be misleading. This has happened with me before & yet again with this particular shade too. On the website, the swatch looks pretty matte, but is a very shimmery product. It is not sparkly bright but very bright indeed. Though they do mention the words “highlight”, “shimmering” in the product description but seeing it for the first time the shimmer in it took me aback. It is so different from the swatch.
I do love this product though. It is shimmery but it is a good shimmer, works excellently well when creating party looks or can be used sparingly on the brow bone or inner corners for just a little highlight. As an eyeshadow, it looks more shimmery when applied wet, it looks like a deep metallic pink. I love the color. Even when dry, the shimmer can be overwhelming for some who are not used to such shades & textures. The product itself is great in terms of long lasting & how smoothly it glides on & how easy it is to blend. I would give it full marks for its quality alone.
The biggest con for me is the packaging. The sieve inside that is supposed to dispense color when “shaken gently” dispenses WHOLE lot of color even with a gentle tap. The squares/holes are very huge & while closing the product screw-on cap, the powder flies everywhere. If you use this under the fan, then God have mercy on you. You will end up losing a lot of it!
Swatches e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet
In the above image, on the left is the dry applied dry & on the right it has been applied wet. When used wet, the metallic sheen in the color comes out much better. That is pretty much the only difference; the color does not look that different. It dries pretty quickly & adheres to skin well, whether wet or dry. It does provide a “soft-focus” on the lines, the lines around the product appear much pronounced.
Here, is the color blended out as much as possible, left is without flash, right is with flash. It sure is an excellent lightest of pink shimmery highlighter.
In the EOTD, I have applied the color across the eyelid, dry, & then used a darker pinky/purple on the crease & outer “V” area. The pink in it comes out better when paired with another darker pink I feel.
Pros of e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet
A multipurpose color, can be used as highlighter or eyeshadow & sparingly on the cheeks too or dabbed on the centre of the lips.
- Very inexpensive for the quality & quantity provided.
- For those who love pinks, this is a very neat shimmery product.
- 100 % Mineral based color, loaded with ingredients good for skin. (Vitamins A, B, C, E)
- Free from parabens, chemical dyes, preservatives.
- On cheeks, it did not break me out.
- Has sun protection in it too.
- Can be used with brush or with finger; wet or dry.
- Buildable color, blend for a sheer look or pack-on for an intense color pay off.
Cons of e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet
- The packaging is poor, the holes in the “sieve” inside are too big & a lot of product seeps through & flies away every time I close it.
- Available only online in India, with heavy taxes & import charges.
- The color is not universal. It is a shimmery pink, not all will be game for it.
3.8/5, although it is an excellent quality product & a good shade; it’s use is very limited, I don’t think many would enjoy using this.
Will I Repurchase e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet?
I rather get a similar pressed powder, the color is gorgeous but not extremely unique. I’m sure I will find some dupe easily available here in India.
Will I recommend e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow – Sweet?
Not to everyone, if this is easily available for you & you like working with pigments then yes you would enjoy using it but others who are not into shimmery shades or pinks or pigments are not missing out on something special.
Hope this helped & Happy Makeuping! 🙂
