ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator Review

Hi everyone,

I have tried a couple of lip exfoliators in the past with “not so satisfactory” results and hence come back to my homemade scrubs or a wet rag to remove dead skin cells from my lips to get a smoother canvas to apply lip color. I, however, have good things to say about the product in this post. Read on further to know more about it 🙂

ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator

Product Description:

Gently exfoliate lips to remove dry, chapped skin with our lip exfoliator! A sweet sugar and smoothing sensation, infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils to nourish and protect.  This lip exfoliator treats and smoothes lips for a conditioned and revitalized feel.  Apply to clean, damp lips and massage in a circular motion to exfoliate. Use a moistened cotton pad with water to gently wipe away scrub. Follow with a lip balm or gloss to condition.

My Take on ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator:

Originally ELF came up with only one kind of lip exfoliator – sweet sugar scrub which was a good venture except it didn’t get that many positive reviews because it felt like rubbing sand paper against the lips. Later, ELF came up with two better versions in “Mint” and “Cherry.” I bought the “Mint” one to give a shot to this product and see how it performs.

Packaging:  It comes in the same packaging as that of ELF moisturizing lipstick. I like the packaging – it’s classy, it’s practical, it’s sanitary, and easy to carry around. I have never seen a lip scrub in such a packaging and it makes me wonder why it was never done before.

Texture:  When swatched on the palm, one wouldn’t feel any sort of scrubbing and it would feel like a normal lip balm; however, when applied on to the lips, one can feel the grainy texture of the scrub which is perfect since skin on the lips is way too gentle and cannot be subjected to extreme sanding. The sugar grains are very fine and maybe too fine for some because I had to rub it on my lips multiple times to properly exfoliate my lips.

Fragrance and Color:  It is of pale neon green color and has mild mint fragrance, and even imparts a mild tingling sensation to lips. I like the fragrance in first go, but it has a very unpleasant, suppressed fragrance, maybe because it is an amalgam of so many oils and wax. Also, once you wash it off, it leaves behind a oily-waxy layer which is a little unpleasant.

ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator

Those of you who liked the original formula would not like this particular one because it is not abrasive enough and has to be rubbed on lips multiple times to get the exfoliation done.  Also, it leaves behind a waxy texture which I find very unpleasant. But all those who found the original formula like sand paper, should try this one!

Pros of ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator:

  • Lipstick-like packaging – easy to use and looks classy.
  • Minty flavor and fragrance.
  • Gives a tingling sensation to the lips.
  • Comes in three different flavors.
  • Has tiny sugar granules to exfoliate lips.
  • Affordable.
  • It is gentle on lips.
  • It is an amalgam of skin-beneficial oils.

Cons of ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator:

  • Smell is a little unpleasant.
  • Leaves a waxy texture behind which is a little unpleasant.

Would I Repurchase ELF Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator?

Yes, but not this flavor, I would like to try the original formula and see how efficient it is compared to Mint Maniac. Readers should give this product a try especially if they suffer from chapped, dry lips like me and need to exfoliate every time before using lip color.
