Two years ago, when Maybelline color tattoo hit the Indian market, I went crazy and bought 5 shades at once, which is so unlike me. That was the first time I used cream eye shadows and I insanely fell in love with them over the traditional powder eye shadows. The MAC Paint pots were there already in the Indian market, but the Maybelline pots came with a price tag which made it possible for everyone to try all the shades available, even girls who were on a budget. Cream shadows are easy to work with because they have no fall out and most of the times, the shades are so versatile that even when used alone on eyelids, it gives the effect of full eye makeup. So, these were the reasons I becamew a big fan of cream shadows and Maybelline color tattoo was the only range of shadows I was using until I came across ELF smudge pots. Today, I am reviewing the shade “Cruisin Chic” for you all.

My Experience with ELF Smudge Pot Cruisin Chic:

As I have mentioned earlier, the only other cream eye shadow I have used is from the Maybelline color tattoo range, so you will see me comparing the ELF smudge pot a lot with that. To start with, let me tell you that ELF smudge pots are way more creamier than the Maybelline color tattoo, they have a whipped cream kind of consistency.  After application on the skin, it sets within a few seconds and once set, it stays intact. Because it is creamier, I like to use them with my fingers than with a brush. It is easy to blend with brush, but one needs to be quick in blending because if the product dries before blending, then no amount of rubbing will help. Due to its creamy consistency, it is possible to use it as a liner too; however, not all shades will look good as liners.

The shade “Cruisin Chic” is a shimmery taupe shade which is a beautiful everyday kind of shade. It looks more metallic under direct light. I find this as a very versatile color; it reflects light so beautifully that it looks different in different lighting conditions.  Due to this, even when used all over the eyelid alone, it still gives the effect of smoky eyes to some extent. Again if I compare it with Maybelline color tattoo, it looks more to “Bad to the Bronze” than a taupe. I like this shade a lot. It does not come as dark on skin as it looks in the pan, still I will say that it is very pigmented.

I have used only one layer of this in the swatches and without any primer underneath. This shade does not work for me as an eyeliner, so I like to use it as an eyeshadow only.  It works well as an eye shadow base for powder eye shadows too.

Talking of staying power, as they claim, it stays for 4-5 hours without creasing on my oily eyelids without a primer.  With primer, it stays creaseproof for 8+ hours which is amazing. It is completely waterproof and smudge-proof, only oil-based cleanser cleans it properly. It comes in plastic tubs which are durable and unlike Maybelline color tattoo, no free brush comes along with this 😛 I highly recommend this shade to everyone. Avoid it only if you hate cream eye shadows!
