ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush Review

ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush Review

Hey everyone!

Today, I will be reviewing one of the products I got from ELF. I have had a problem with horrible, dark circles since a long time, and though they are reducing somewhat now (YES! They’re reducing! Thanks to the simultaneous use of Aroma Magic Under Eye Gel and Fab India Aloe Vera Under Eye Gel), it still is far from perfect and I need a concealer which provides a good coverage for my dark circles.  So, I came upon this concealer pencil, and since it was cheap, and application of pencils is easy, I decided to buy it. Let’s see how it fared.

My Take on ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush:

I was very excited to see the concept of a concealer and a brush together, which seemed like it would be pretty useful for quick touch-ups, and I was tempted to try it out.  So, I ordered this in the shade “Medium” since there were only 3 shades to choose from – Fair, Light and Medium. I just hoped that the shade would match my skin tone. When I saw it first, I thought it was too light for me, but then when I used it, it seemed to go really well with my skin tone.

This has a concealer pencil on one end and a brush with a cap on the other end, so that we may be able to blend it easily after using.  It also comes with a sharpener on the concealer side of the pencil. I don’t like the brush, because if you try to blend with it, it takes a lot of the product off. The sharpener isn’t good too and you need to sharpen it in a certain way to have some effect and also since the concealer is creamy, some product may be wasted due to sharpener not being good, but the Lakme dual sharpener works good enough, so I am fine with it.

Coming to the product, I was afraid that the texture wouldn’t be creamy enough, and it would be difficult to blend, or hard, but I love the texture. It’s not too creamy, but it’s not hard either and overall, it’s easy to blend with your fingers.

The shade selection is very disappointing since I read that the lightest shade doesn’t match fair skin tones at all, so this is more suited to people with tan or medium skin tones. There are no dark shades either.  The coverage provided is above average. It conceals all blemishes on your face easily. It also works pretty decently for dark circles, though it definitely is not full coverage as it couldn’t cover dark circles completely. It also works well for applying to the sides of your nose and mouth, where the dark areas are present. So the coverage is pretty good and better than what I expected.

ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush 4

The staying power was not that good on my oily/combination skin – it lasted around 3-4 hours, but since it is really easy to apply, I didn’t mind touching up.  Also, it claims to reduce acne due to presence of salicylic acid and tea tree oil, which I can’t verify due to not having acne.  Overall, I like the concealer because it matches my skin tone well and provides good coverage – the main things I was looking for.

I have shown how it performs for dark circles. You can see that it neutralizes the red in the under eye area.

Pros of ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush:

  • Texture is smooth and creamy.
  • Blends easily with fingers.
  • Comes with a brush and sharpener making it easy to carry around.
  • Coverage provided is really good.
  • Pencil form of concealer is easy to use.
  • Contains salicylic acid and tea tree oil as active ingredients.
  • Inexpensive.

Cons of ELF Studio Concealer Pencil and Brush:

  • Brush and sharpener are not very useful.
  • Staying power is not that good.
  • Shade selection is disappointing.

IMBB Rating:

As a product, I give it 3/5 because of the coverage mainly, and deducting points for shade selection. If it doesn’t match yours, it will be a total dud.  For me, I give it 4/5 because my main aim was coverage and I got my shade.

I would probably think about repurchasing, but I have a lot of it left right now, and by the time I finish it, something else would have caught my fancy 😀

Take care until next time!
