ELF Studio Passionate Purple Pigment Eyeshadow Review

Hello IMBBians!

Today, I share about one of the loves of my life – eyeshadows! Eye makeup is very important for me, there’s hardly a day when I don’t try a new look on my eyes. Give me a liner and some eyeshadows and I feel like I can conquer the world! Over the years I have become used to pigments as well, some are easy to use some aren’t; this product – ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow in Passionate Purple – is one of the good ones I’ve used. I just wish it had no cons to it!

My experience with ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow Passionate Purple

Color & Texture:
I love this color. I am a big fan of purple colors on the eyes, I feel it really brings out the brown in my eyes. It has a pink hue to it, which is very helpful in blending it out; as the color fades to a pinker shade when faded out in the crease. I love using a soft pink shade anyways to blend it out more seamlessly. Pigments are very versatile, they can be used wet or dry or sheer or can be packed on depending on the look one is going for. ELF’s pigment eyeshadow are wonderful to use. The color that you see in the container is what you get on the eyes. There is no need of using a primer with this. It is a shimmery shade; in certain lights in fact it can look even a tad bit glittery but that is only on close up. The shimmer or the non-matte nature of the pigment makes blending it out very easy; all you need is a soft fluffy brush. When applied wet, the metallic nature of this shade stands out beautifully. This is also one of those shades that can be used on its own for a complete look– just pack it on the lid with a dense/flat brush and use a fluffy brush to blend it out in the crease. It will look as if you have used multiple colors to create the effect which is due to the fact that the color can be sheered out very well.

Packaging:
Now, this is the only major con with this product! It comes with a brush that I have long back discarded as it’s was very tiny & had nothing special about it. The outside packaging is decent, comes in a see-though plastic tub with a black screw-on top. And has a sifter inside it to hold the pigment in place. I don’t know what the issue is with ELF when it comes to their sifters, either the holes are too big, making the product fly away everywhere (as in the case of their Mineral Booster) or the holes are so tiny that barely any product gets out. Latter is the case with this particular pigment. No matter how much you shake it, very little product is dispensed. If you need a sheer wash or need to apply it only below the lower line or anywhere you don’t need much product then this is fine but for a typical use it is never enough. I always end up removing the sifter, which is not very easy anyways because we have to be extra cautious when dealing with loose pigments. This bothers me every time I use it.

Usage:
To use pigments, the best technique is to pick up some product with the tip of a flat brush and immediately press it to the back of the lid, squishing the product into the bristles. Then tap the excess off in the same lid & apply the color with a packing motion on the lid; avoid “windshield wiper” motion to reduce fall out. When satisfied with the color intensity, blend the edges with a fluffy brush.

Staying Power:
I have absolutely no complaints in this department. It stays on till you use a makeup remover on it. Fading on my normal, non-oily lids is barely noticeable. If you do have oily lids, it is always helpful to use a good primer to prolong the wear. I have never noticed any major creasing with this product.

Cons of ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Passionate Purple:

• Non-availability of ELF products in India.
• The sifter is of a disappointing quality
• As with any pigment eyeshadow, care needs to be taken when taking it from the pan for fear of fall-out or product wastage

IMBB Rating:

4/5 – Other than the troubles with the sifter, I have no issues with this product. But for the price point, this is a steal!

EOTD:

On my eyes, I have worn just the pigment on my lids with a black liner & kajal (Bobbi Brown’s Black Ink Gel Liner;) I used a soft pink color (Milani Luminoso Baked Blush ) to blend it out on the crease.

Will I repurchase/ Do I recommend ELF Studio Passionate Purple Pigment Eyeshadow ?

I highly recommend ELF pigments to anyone who is comfortable in using pigments. Also those who want to start using pigments; this is a very inexpensive product to start experimenting with. I wouldn’t need to repurchase this particular shade as there is a lot of product in it but I would love to try new shades.
I hope this helped and until next time – Happy Makeuping!
