I absolutely love wearing lipsticks and just can’t stop buying them. Recently, there was an ongoing sale on the ELF website and I realized that I did not own any lipsticks from this brand. So, I ended up ordering a few. Today, I am reviewing the ELF Studio Matte Lip color in the shade “Wine.” Read on to find out more.
$3; I got it for a dollar on sale.
This convenient jumbo sized lip pencil creates exact color application with twist up ease so you never have to sharpen. The pigment rich color glides on effortlessly and easily to provide long lasting matte color. The enriched Vitamin A, C and E formula moisturizes and hydrates lips for beautiful healthy looking lips.
My Experience with ELF Studio Wine Matte Lip Color:
Packaging: This lip color comes in a slender twist-up pen format. The black pen format looks quite chic and feels sturdy. It surely does not give you a feel that you are holding a $3 lip product. A colored band at the bottom coincides with the color of the lip product inside. The lip product is retractable and you don’t need to bother about a sharpener. However, the product does not swivel down completely and the tip remains slightly exposed.
The tip of the lip pen is oval shaped and that makes the application precise, especially around the corners of the lips or the cupid’s bow. The cap shuts tight and you can surely toss this around in your bag.
Shade/Pigmentation: The shade “Wine” is true to its name and is a gorgeous deep red wine color. This is a lovely shade to flaunt as we say goodbye to summer and welcome fall. It is a mature shade and will suit most skin tones. The lip pen is decently pigmented and covers the lips in a single swipe. Swiping it multiple times does not make the look cake-y.
Texture/Finish/Lasting Power: The texture of the lip pen is quite creamy. It applies very smoothly on the lips and does not tug at all. Even though this is a matte lipstick, the finish is not the dry, flat matte finish. Instead, it is a lovely matte with a slight sheen. It does not accentuate any lip lines and does not feel drying on the lips. Though, it always helps to have well-moisturized lips anyway.
The staying power of the lipstick is quite good at around 5 hours. It transfers a bit but still survives light meals and snacking. It leaves behind a nice stain on the lips.
To summarize, for a $3 lipstick, I am amazed that it has such a great color pay-off, formula and lasting power. My only regret – I should have discovered these long ago.
